J D Buttram

JD was born to Hiram and Cordelia Buttram on January 27, 1925 in Payson, Oklahoma. He was raised in a family of 10 children. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Korea for several months of his enlistment. Following his active duty he moved to Whittier, California where he met the love of his life, Oklahoma-native, Betty Smith. They were married in October of 1949. Together they moved back to Oklahoma where JD became a truck driver for Shawnee Milling Company for 33 years. JD and Betty made Shawnee, Oklahoma their home where they raised their children and spoiled their grandchildren and great grandchildren. After retirement JD and Betty lived on the acreage for many years before moving back to town and then later to Tecumseh.

JD was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and served well with all of his heart. He was a true follower of Christ, a devoted husband and father, a loving and fun grandfather, and a wonderful brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He was loved unconditionally and will be missed until we are together with him again.

JD was proceeded in death by his father, Hiram Buttram; mother, Cordelia Buttram; brothers’, John Buttram, Cecil Buttram, Robert Lee Buttram; half-brother, Herman Buttram; and sisters’, Myrtle Smith, Georgia Buttram, Ruby Macy, Evelyn Nelson, Edith Burri, and Jesse Rathbun. He is survived by his wife, Betty Buttram of Tecumseh, OK; son and daughter in law, Larry and Diana Buttram of Tecumseh, OK; daughter, Kathy Dickson of Mustang, OK; grandchildren, Sarah and Jeff Barham of Shawnee, OK; Patrick and Kelly Buttram of Shawnee, OK; Sarah Buttram of Tecumseh, OK; Kendra and Bryce Arrasmith of Tecumseh, OK; Chris Dickson of Durant, OK, and Kevin Dickson of Mustang, OK; great grandchildren, Michaela Buttram, Coby Barham, Noah Buttram, Montana Buttram, Raven Buttram, Creed Barham, Madelyn Buttram, Buddy Buttram, Jaycee Barham, Jake Buttram, AJ Buttram, Lucius Arrasmith, and Maddox Arrasmith; many special nieces and nephews, including Sue Walden and Deloris and Bob Wright; as well as many other family members and friends.

Services for JD will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday June 4, 2013 at the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Tecumseh, with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Shawnee. Visitation will be Monday June 3, 2013 8:00 AM till 5:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee. The family will be available to receive friends from 3 PM to 5 PM on Monday.
