Gary Ed O'Neal

Gary Ed O’Neal was born on July 25th, 1943 in Ada, Oklahoma to Edgar and Geneva (Brashears) O’Neal. He passed away on November 6th, 2023 peacefully at his home in Shawnee, Oklahoma with his loving family by his side.

Gary attended Rush Spring High School and ended up graduating from Shawnee High School in 1961, and then attended OBU, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. Before going into the United States Navy, Gary met and married the love of his life, Linda Cearley. They were married on May 27, 1966 and enjoyed 57 incredible years together. He then joined the United States Navy. He spent time in Hawaii, Guam, and San Diego. After being in for 5 years, he was honorably discharged and returned home. During his working years Gary owned a variety of businesses. For a time he also worked for the Oklahoma State Highway Department in the lab. He was known for being the candy salesman.

Gary was an avid OU fan and loved cruises with his wife, Linda. Most importantly, were the times he got to spend with his family. Gary was also a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Shawnee.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Geneva O’Neal, along with a brother, Rick O’Neal; and sister, Sharon O’Neal.

Gary is survived by his wife, Linda; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Tiffany O’Neal, daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Chris Carpenter; grandchildren: Paige and husband Chance Snodgrass, Gregory O’Neal Carpenter, Chase O’Neal, and Wesley Carpenter; great-granddaughter, Spencer Leigh, nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church, 302 East Independence Street, Shawnee, OK 74804, in remembrance of Gary.

A visitation for Gary will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home, 44909 Highway 3, Shawnee, OK 74801. A funeral service will occur Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church, 302 E Independence St, Shawnee, OK 74804. A committal will occur Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 44909 Highway 3, Shawnee, OK 74801.
