He attended and graduated from Shawnee High School. He then went on to attend Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma. During his working career he was the plant manager at Al-Ko Kober Industries. In the early 1980’s Elwood achieved being number 1 in Pro BMX in Oklahoma as well as fourteenth nationally. Later in life his free time included fishing, playing golf, shooting guns and spending time with his grandkids. He also enjoyed vacations to Gore and Branson. Another proud achievement was inventing a lubricated spindle and nut system, along with two patents at Al-Ko Kober Corporation. His most precious moments in life were when he became “Papa.”
Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Teresa Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory are son, Cody and wife Kristin Odom; daughter, Whitney Smith and spouse Kirk Garfield Jr.; son, Elwood Smith III; brother, Charles Sr. and wife Deana Swantek; brother Loyal Swantek and wife Valerie Baldwin; brother, Yancie Swantek and wife Sherry West; grandchildren: Kanin, Kayzlee, Klutch, Jaylen, Ke’Aire, Liberty, and Rosalynn; the mother of his children, Dana Vitenheimer and a host of other family members and dear friends.
