“For myEddie” on his birthday five years after passing from this life to his heavenly home - Some very special birthdays we celebrated together as my birthday followed his. These years have passed and I have done what my husband taught me to do.  “Be patient, wait till God gives you peace about an important decision or matter before you move on it”.  He did this even when I wanted us to jump into any opportunity or whim in my thoughts. So this is not so difficult now - He was a wise man - proved to me many  times the wisdom of getting and having the peace that only God can give through difficult times. Time passes away and some memories become pale; But the love we shared will always be with me. Missing My Eddie Chapman ~  From The Wife That Still Follows...Hazel 

Thank you to all our friends and families for the kind and thoughtful words and memories. My Eddie has been with God in heaven for a year now. I long to be with him. Other plans for me - not my will, but Thine be done. Thank you all for the love and support this year passed. My Eddie may be gone from me a little while; yet he is still within my heart. We shared a lifetime together and we will also have eternity together. I will always love this man, my lover my husband.

I loved Brother Ed! He was always laughing, and brought joy wherever he went. He was a good man and a hard worker. I am so glad I got to know him and his family! The time I spent serving with him were very special years. I will never forget the day in Sunday School when he was telling a story about driving and he and Hazel were going back and forth on the details. Doug said, "Jesus take the Wheel " and the whole class erupted into laughter. I'm not doing the story justice, but is was one of my fondest moments thinking about him. His Joy was infectious. Pawpaw taught me to shoot squirrels, use a nail gun, and how to properly wire things! I owe him a lot of thanks for what he taught me, not just how to use tools or guns but how to treat people and be selfless no matter how your feeling. I am grateful he got to meet Brooklyn and give her hugs and kisses before he passed! We love our pawpaw very much and can't wait to see him again!

Mona and I will always be indbted to Bro Ed. I remember a few years back when we were on deputation and the Chapmans graciously allowed us to stay in their home. While we were there Mona and I came down with the flu and were sick the whole time we were at their home. We were too sick to help with any of the chores but Bro & Sis Chapman were so generous, kind and understanding of our situation. Bro Ed was generous to a fault and he proved it to us over and over again. Our lives were richer because of Bro Ed. God blessed our lives thru Bro Ed. Bro Ed was mission hearted.  What he did for missions was with an honest heart. He gave to missions with no intrest in recognition or applause. Bro Ed was a true blessing and I know he is missed by all who knew him. My mind and heart are flooded with happy, sweet memories of Bro. Ed Chapman. When we were at Bible College in Oklahoma City, Bro. & Mrs. Chapman invited us to spend Spring Break at their home. Being so far away from home, we were treated like family, and felt like we were right at home. I'll never forget that week. Yes, indeed, Bro. Chapman was a very unselfish and giving man. He loved the Lord, and he loved missionaries. I thank the Lord for the privilege of having known him.  ~~Chiapas, Mexico

Someone asked me one time “what kind of guy is Ed Chapman”; I thought a minute and replied “Well, you just have to meet him for yourself”.  He was different things to different people.  To me, he was a friend and a kindred spirit.  We worked together, prayed together, ate together, and on rare occasions wept together, but most of all he was my friend.  I know deep down that he had a love for people, his family, his church, and God, and he lived out his love.  In school, somewhere, I learned a poem, the only line I still remember is “Let me live in a house beside the road and be a friend to man” This for me will be my lasting impression of my friend, Ed Chapman. I will always be thankful for the time and investment that Mr. Ed aka "The Boss" made in my life.  He was a great teacher that not only taught me a few things about electrical work but a lot of things about how a life should be lived.  He was the greatest Father-In-Law that anyone could hope for.    He was also the greatest PawPaw that my kids could have ever had and I really appreciate all the time that he spent with them and the many travel opportunities that he afforded them.  He also raised his daughter to be loving and giving. I will forever be grateful for that.  I sure do miss  Mr. Ed.

When I think of him now... I want to be known as a Christian in the way God desires a Christian to be
 I thank God for giving me opportunity to know this wonderful man and the lessons I was given in knowing him.

Dear Hazel; I send my love and sympathy to you for the loss of Ed. It was so great to have you  as neighbors. When I needed help or or needed something fixed - Ed was there to help and fix it. I sure missed seeing his big smile and laugh when I came home in May. I always felt safe having you and Ed just up the hill from me. I know it is awful hard for you now, missing him. Everywhere you look and see he is not there. Look to The Lord for comfort because you know that's what Ed would want you to do.

It was while Eddie, my brother in law, and the guys were working on Mom's house - On Mother's Day, he fixed all of us mothers lasagna for dinner. It took him all day, but it was well worth the time. It was so good ...the best I ever ate.

We met Eddie and his wife, Hazel, in 1994 as his mother-in-law, Janie Hartshorn, attended our church.  He was one of the most kind, most giving men that we have known and one that exemplified a true Christian spirit.  He spent countless hours working on Miss Janie's house, updating and improving it.  He wired our own home when we rebuilt it after a fire and never took payment for doing so.  He loved missionaries and used his talents as an electrician many times in their building projects.  He was a great example of a "Good Samaritan" and we were blessed to know him.

Ed and Hazel have been so much a part of our lives.  Caring for our little ones from the time they were itty bitty babies. God sent us a wonderful family to be part of!  Teri tells me about how much he learned from Eddie on the job and the great friend and example he was to him.  The wonderful pictures in my memory of him dressed as Santa with both my girls on his lap. How can I ever find the words that express how we feel about two people that loved our girls as much as we do. Makes me smile when I think of his love of eating and when we were all together for meals, he was always smiling and holding that empty plate; he wasn't shy about being first to serve himself. And his laugh, filled a room and made it "home". We will see you soon dear friend, until then we will have to be satisfied with our wonderful memories of you.

I still can't call him "Ed", even though he asked me to.  He will always be "Bro. Chapman".  Ed and Hazel taught my Jr. High Sunday School class.  The man had the patience of Job dealing with Me, Roger, James and John on the back row.  I remember every word he told us about his near death experience with an exploding electrical panel at McCartney's Grocery Store and his time in the Catholic church.  I remember he used to be involved with racing cars.  I remember the time in his garage, with my dad, Wayne Hardy and some others, building the lighting system for the play "Once To Die" and him playing the part of the hard-headed, control freak, atheist father.  That was the only time I got to see Bro Chapman angry and upset.  That was fun.  What I remember most was his calm, yet firm, approach to dealing with us kids.  I admire his faithfulness and loyalty to God, EBC and the Pastor.  I admire his willingness to serve where ever he was needed.  There were times I called him to help a small church with an electrical problem.  To my knowledge, he never charged those churches a dime for his time and materials.  I admire his sense of humor.  Bro Chapman had a laugh that made me laugh.  When I get to Heaven, I want to go to the door with Jack Walls, Ed Chapman and Gary Tunnell standing there, cutting up, shaking hands, busting my chops the way those guys did.  Thank you Ed, for being the real deal.  Thank you for demonstrating what change, hard work, service, and loving your family looks like.

Bro. Chapman, One memory stands out especially in my mind. I was on a missions trip to Mexico with a group from church.  Among other things while spending time with you and your wife  I was so impressed with the way you treated her. You never know the impact small actions make on the lives of others. Thank you for your kind manner.  You are missed.

Where do I start? Ed and Hazel were some of the best friends a person could ask for. Mike and I spent lots of time with them. Ed was always enviting us to taking us to the creek on their property. When our kids were little we would go and play in the water, eat and lots of fellowship. They helped us a lot with advice on how to raise kids. We love Ed he was a great friend who always was encouraging. What a Blessing. I Love You Hazel. Thank you for your long time Friendship. Love Jacqua

My life today is what it is due to the generosity and love of both Ed & Hazel. All that is good in my life can be traced back to Ed & Hazel. They took my family in to theirs when I was just a punk kid and Ed had the patience (LOTS of patience) to teach me the electrical trade. Here I am 33 years later still enjoying the fruit of Ed's generosity. I'll always love you both. Thank you so much for what you have done in my life. You made a huge difference. Until I see you again, I want you to know you'll be loved and missed. Alot.

Shortly after starting a new church plant Ed and Hazel walked in the front door.  I can honestly say, no one believed in and supported me more than Ed.  His flaws were overshadowed by his love for me and my family.  Ed could always be counted on.  Not only was he willing to help, his skill and dedication to doing the job right was unmatched.  His sense of humor always lifted my spirit.  Not many men cared and served like him.  I will never forget his contribution to my life and I will miss him.

Ed and I had many good times together with Hazel and my wife, linda. We were together all the time, while I went the Eastland Baptist. Ed was a caring man, who always put other people before himself.I can't say enough about all the things he has done for others. It won't be long and we will fellowship together again.

To the best brother in law anyone ask for...he was a good family man. He and Hazel was always there to save the day for me with any situation...whether it was to help around my house or helping with my girls when I was single. We also had alot of good times playing texas rummy and trips to the beach with you and Hazel ...and sweet memories of our family get togethers...you are miss already Eddie, some day we will have a great big gathering when Jesus calls us all home.

Shortly after Dad accepted Christ, he asked me to help him pour out all the alcohol in the house.  He and I poured the few remaining cans of beer down the sink.   Even as a ten year old boy, I recognized the seriousness of his commitment.  Once he set himself on the course of Christ's disciple, he never changed from that course.   He has now finished his course and has joined those in heaven.   We look forward to seeing him again.

Don and I have known Ed and Hazel several years. It seems we just clicked as friends. We had fellowship dinners together. He took us to our Dr. appointments. He said he was our stepson. We loved him and miss him very much. There will never be another "Ed." He made himself at home at our house; and we loved it.

Eddie, I'm sorry I lost contact with you and Hazel for so many years. You were both helpful and generous when I needed help both going through the breakup with my wife and especially when the Chapman family took me into your home after the amputation.  My High School memories will always include you and Hazel.  Keep Heavens back door propped for open for me.  Mike Mason

Brother Ed was a man's man.  He exemplified a walk for our LORD and was a tremendous blessing to me.  We have a void from his absence but what a reunion it will be.  I got to electrician 401 with him but, he never let me graduate!  Praise our LORD for friendship and brotherhood this side of glory!

I remember way back when Ed and Hazel decided to add a big addition to their house.  Ed's business was doing great and he was the happiest I ever saw him.  While I was doing the woodwork part Ed would come by and say ,"Hey-y--y brother-in-law, I just came by to check on you to see if you were doing the job right.  It was always in that deep growl that only Ed could do.  All those who worked with Ed know what I'm talking about.  He made all jobs enjoyable....I'll miss you Eddie....

Brother Ed was such a blessing to us here in Laredo, Texas. He always had a willing heart to help out. The Lord shone through in his life. We really appreciate all he did for Rio Grande Missionary Help and Family Baptist Church. His fingerprints are all over the new church building of Family Baptist Church. Thank you Bro. Ed!

Eddie, you will be missed by so many. I remember the crazy eights in the snow and all the teasing! Yes you touched our lives with your big heart and the way you loved the Lord and your family. I remember all the talks when we were searching and learning about the Lord - the bus ministry - the convertible bus - when you guys had bus trouble in Tallahassee - all the practical ways you ministered to missionaries. You were the best grandpa I could ask for! You were always there for me and there to help not only to help me but anyone else that needed help too. You gave me great advice about life and people that I would some day have to deal with. I have so much to say...I cant wait to see you again and get a big bear hug. All the memories we have together I will never forget. All the vacations we had all the games we played all the fudge sickles we had all the movies we watched all the wood we cut all the work we did on the creek...so many memories! I loved them all and I wouldn't trade them for anything! I love you so much. You are greatly missed! By me and many others.

Ed - can't believe he's gone.  But then again, he's not really gone.  For in all of the ways he has touched each of our lives, he lives on, not only in our own lives, but in the lives that we, too, touch.  It's kind of a ripple effect.  And most importantly, we know that he is blessing lives in Heaven right now, and that he is being blessed as well.  Ed was a rare and one of a kind individual.   He lived the word "Christian" in his dealings with everyone - he truly cared about people.   He was kindhearted, easy going, and fair in all of his dealings.  He had a heart of gold.  And his passing reminds us that every single day of our lives is a gift from God and to be treasured and for His love to be passed on to the people around us.  There are no guarantees of tomorrow, but there is the guarantee of Heaven and being with our Lord!  Don't cry because it's over.   Smile because it happened.   Smile because of the many ways Ed touched our lives!

Looking back at the time I spent with Mr Ed, I would never have guessed that 18 years ago when I was hired by him that I would get a second family.  I will miss our random conversations during lunch and all of the randomness that only happens around Mr Ed.  I know you will find it hard to believe, but our last conversation was about tools.  It seems so insignificant now.  I will miss him.

The Chapmans have been some of our best friends for 41 years. They were our first neighbor that we were able to get to know. I don't know what we would have done or where we would be today if God had not put them in our lives. Eddie was the best example of giving and what a legacy to leave behind. He loved the Lord, his family and friends. Eddie, we love and miss you. Thank you for all you did for this entire family of mine. Thank you for teaching us to give and share.

One thing sticks out to me.  Was when we were working on grandma's house and we had a disagreement and when things don't go well I will shut down and back out of the whole situation.  I showed
up the next morning at grandma and was coming to tell dad I was going home. He then grabbed me and hugged me and told me he loved me and not to go and began to cry. My heart just melted.  I needed that. Dad had a heart of gold and his unconditional love to me had affected me in ways that words cannot explain.  I loved Dad and will always be grateful for what he taught me.

You have always been the world's greatest dad to me and always will be. I will always cherish the wonderful memories in my heart. One day I know that you will welcome me to heaven with a great big hug! Until than know that I hope to carry your legacy on by teaching my kids and grandkids the joy of true giving!

Papa (A.K.A. Edward Chapman) was a very loving grandfather. Though he had hard times of his own, he always made it a point that he would be there for me no matter what. The last time I saw him was when he came to my college to help me work on my truck. I love him, and I will miss him greatly.

Eddie- a brother in law I really enjoyed hanging out with.  He taught me so much about working on houses.  When we had to go to Lowe"s or some place to get things we needed, we always seemed to end up in some restaurant whether it was macdonald's or a mexican restaurant eat. Or a coney island with Darrell.  He also loved nascar and car racing...I will miss him...

He was always nice to me and Rowdy. He would always ask if we wanted a popsicle. We talked about how we like eat our hot dogs, he liked his boiled and I like mine grilled. When we would go into the camper he would tell us Callie was smiling at us when she was growling at us! I will miss him.

I spent most of my summers at my Aunt Hazel and Uncle Eddies house. I have so many memories hard to pick just one! Our trip to Laredo/Nuevo Laredo was my first time to go across the border. Crossing over there Eddie said they may keep me! We visited with the missionary's, ate, shopped, and of course we bought vanilla to take home! Oh and a flower from the waiter because Marci stood out!! Going back to our hotel, as we got to the border patrol, I kept thinking what if they don't let me back over!!! He was such a big kid in that way, but with a big heart.

To my favorite uncle...who treated me like one of his own kids....I remember the summer that I was turning 16....he tought me how to drive and took me for  my driving test....Shelly, Marci and I would drive around the neighborhood....alot of  times going past the boundries...I thought I was so cool when I got to drive to the store....I have alot of great memories of my summers I spent in Tulsa driving my aunt and uncle crazy!!! You will be greatly missed.

Dad-- I love you and miss you. You was more than I could ask for. Thank you for the greatest suprise. I shall cherish my memory of time 
We had in Colorado before your homegoing.

This is my Eddie. We met while we were in high school. He insisted we belonged together.Dating folowed three months untill graduation. After the ceremony we became engaged to be married. Inseparable for the remainder of our time together. God put us together and we served Him together. I learned to love him as he became my rock. He loved me. I loved him. We were a team.
