Bill has been aching to go to heaven since the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Betty Jo Parson's McClure left us for her new home in heaven on December 16, 2013. Heaven is richer but our world is less colorful without him.
The spirit of Billy Bob McClure, Sr. is impossible to be contained in the written word. Bill was born on December 12, 1928 to J.O. and Irene McClure in Shawnee, OK where he grew up with his six brothers and one sister. Only one brother, Taylor McClure is still living.
Billy was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He served at the end of World War II and also in Korea. He was always proud to fight for his country. Upon returning from the Korean War, he promptly married his sweetheart Betty Jo Parsons. They remained married for 62 years. Bill and Betty had two boys, Billy Bob McClure Jr. and Bradley Joe McClure.
Bill grew up during the depression era and worked and fought his way up. In no particular order, he held numerous jobs and titles throughout his career. He was an MP in the Army, was an infantryman fighting Chinese soldiers, sold Insurance, ran a gas station, was a lake patrolman, held numerous City Manager positions in Oklahoma and Texas, was a railroad engineer, a FEMA Coordinator, and a small business owner,
However, besides being an outstanding example of a hardworking man and provider for his family, none of that was who Bill McClure really was. He was so much more. Bill never met a stranger and always left you feeling better after being with him.
Bill accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at the age of 13 at First Baptist Church in Shawnee, OK. At the time of his passing, he remained a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church in Norman, Ok. Bill was a Christian that "walked the walk as Jesus desires.
Bill is proceeded in death by his parents, J.O. and Irene McClure, as well as his siblings, Jim, Therlo, Joe, Jerry, and Margaret. He is survived by many who deeply loved and cared for him including: two sons, Bill, his wife Jane and her daughter Dana Ebb, of Franklin, Tenn., and Brad, his wife Jill, and their children Molly and Matthew and his wife Holly, Bill's loving grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to the Norman Veterans Center Administration at the Norman VA, Dr. Adams, the numerous and wonderful caretakers on F2, where Bill has lived the last year and a half. One big highlight for Bill while living at the VA, was how the administration and staff all worked together to make it possible for Bill and his son Brad to travel on the Honor Flight to Washington DC in June of 2014.
The family would also like to thank Valir Health Care workers for the awesome and continuous care they provided as well.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gideons, The University of Vanderbilt Children's Center, or a charity of your choice that would help forward the Christian love our Dad exemplified.
