Betty Joyce Black, 90, a resident of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away November 5, 2018, in Littleton, Colorado. Betty was born October 18, 1927 in Shawnee to Jack and Thelma Cannon. Betty's family moved to California shortly after her birth and stayed there until she was a junior in high school. From a young age, Betty discovered her love of music; she was the youngest person to become a band majorette at Shawnee High School. She also played clarinet in the school band and played piano most her life. Betty met the love of her life, Wandell "Firpo" Black, and they married on February 25th, 1955. The couple was married over 40 years until his passing in 1996. She worked for many years as a loan officer at Shawnee Morris Plan. She didn't let retirement slow her down. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and other activities with her friends at the senior center; she also enjoyed water aerobics, golfing and bowling. She especially enjoyed her travels to Colorado, spending time with family and attending her daughter Nancy's concerts. Betty was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She is preceded in passing by her parents, Jack and Thelma Cannon; her beloved husband, Wandell "Firpo" Black; sister, Carolyn Nowlin, and husband, Jack; her niece, Kathy Duvall-Arnaud. Betty is survived by her daughter, Nancy Casper, and her husband, Don, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; step-daughter, Cheryl Benton, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; brother, Bob Cannon, and his wife, Martha, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; sister, Karla Cannon-Matthews, and her husband, Robert, of Prague, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Nicole Kugizaki and her husband, Josh, Anna Casper, Jim Benton and his wife, Lisa, Valerie Benton; great-grandchildren, June, Emily, Luke, Josh and Mason and numerous other family members and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 13, 2018, from 5-7 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be 10 am, Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Resthave Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers are Jim Benton, Jeff Rosamond, Jay Nowlin and James Lamascus.
