She moved from Texas to Shawnee as a young child, and she attended Shawnee schools. At 17 she met Charles Freeman, and they started a family at a young age and were married for 32years. Together they had an adventurous life traveling across the US following the pipe liner jobs. Audrey lived in over 24 states, passing through most of them, before settling back in Oklahoma in 1966. Audrey was a tireless partner whether it was assisting with a small engine repair shop or working with horses on a small horse farm. After Charles passed, she cleaned a home for a family that she came to love and held that time and memory close.
Audrey could fill two books with both the exciting, and at times, shocking journey called life. She spent many hours over the years sharing the places she loved living in and things she experienced. As with life there are the good and bad in all those experiences and she was honest in sharing those stories. She always regretted not finishing high school so in her mid-life, she worked hard and achieved her GED.
She enjoyed spending time playing Yahtzee and dominoes with family. Audrey had a love for sweets and bread and could eat pizza every single day, which was a constant joke and discussion about eating better. She loved to crochet afghans and was an avid reader, usually reading a book a day. My, oh my, she loved those murder/crime novels. She had a wicked humor and kept it right up until her journey home.
She was active in the Trinity Methodist Church until it closed, then she continued her faith in her worship at home.
Audrey’s greatest love was her 3 children. She is survived by son Woody, and wife Terri and daughter Penny. She has 10 Grandchildren, two preceding her in death, and 20 Great-great grandchildren. She has two surviving sisters, Elizabeth Harris and Evelyn Sanders and sister-in-law Ann Freeman, and many, many nieces and nephews. Audrey was also preceded in death by 5 siblings, Bud, Sis, Billie, Betty and LaJuana.
She was a good friend and lovely Mother, wife, and sister. She is greatly loved and will be deeply missed. Rest in Peace and Rejoice in your Heavenly family gathering.
Please, in lieu of flowers any donations should go to St. Jude’s Children foundation in her name as she was a supporter for over 20 years making it a priority on her limited income.
A public viewing for Audrey will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Audrey will be laid to rest in Dale Cemetery beside Charles. The family will have a Life Celebration in early November, we will send information out at a later date.
