Susan Gurganus

Susan was born January 28, 1954 in Southport, North Carolina, daughter of Lena Gurganus and the late Billy Gurganus. Her career began with Shallotte Volunteer Rescue and transitioned to a Brunswick County 911 telecommunicator from April 1992 until July 2007 when she advanced to various roles in Brunswick County Sheriff's Department until retirement in 2021. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Reg Abbott.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her children, Brian McGuire and wife Terra of Ash, Kevin McGuire and wife Tara of St. Johns, Florida; grandchildren, Meghan, Madison, Aidan, and Emma; sisters, Ann Abbott and Robin Farmer and husband Tracy; and several generations of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at eleven o'clock in the morning at First Baptist Church of Shallotte with Pastor Bob Weathers and Reverend Jason Benton officiating. Burial will follow in Gurganus Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from nine thirty until eleven o'clock at the church and other times at the home of Ann Abbott.

Active Pallbearers will be Derrick Smith, Aaron Farmer, Gabe Abbott, Garrison Abbott, Mark McKeithan, and Weston McKeithan. Honorary Pallbearers will be Finley Smith, Grayson Smith, Nolan Abbott, and Bryson Curtiss.
