Susan Gardner

November 23, 1962 – October 21, 2024

It is with both sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Susan Gardner on October 21, 2024, at age 61. Born on November 23, 1962, in Hartford, Connecticut, Susan was the daughter of David Sr. and Charlotte Homick and grew up in Wethersfield. She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, and mother to many, known for her warmth, laughter, and boundless energy.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Herb Gardner; her stepson, Todd Gardner and wife Carla; her stepdaughter, Lindsay; her parents, David Sr. and Charlotte; her sister, Cynthia Herman and fiancée Mark; her brother, David Homick Jr. and wife Nancy; her nieces and nephews, Christopher Sr., Kristina, and Alyssa; and her great-nieces and nephews, Christopher Jr., Kate, and Marina.

As the owner of Carefree Gardens, Susan was a gardener in both profession and spirit, nurturing every plant and person she encountered. She also brought her vibrant work ethic to the restaurant industry, building countless friendships along the way.

Susan had an unmatched zest for life. She loved the beach, collecting shells and shark teeth at Holden Beach with Herb by her side, and enjoyed cooking classes, water aerobics, and mahjong with the Lockwood Folly Women’s Club. She loved crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and adored her cats Savannah and Whitney. She was known for her beautiful, recognizable eyes, and in her passing, her eyes were lovingly donated.

Susan was preceded in death by her beloved maternal grandparents, Juliette "Gigi" and Russell “Grandpa” Lucy, and her paternal grandparents, Helen “Nana” and Adam “Gimpa” Homick. They undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.

Susan’s legacy of love, laughter, and compassion will live on in all who knew her. The world is a little quieter without her, but her spirit will forever brighten our hearts.

In accordance with Susan’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held in Connecticut.
