Michael John Noonan, 77 of Sunset Beach passed away in his home on Monday, May 3, 2021. He was born in LaSalle, Illinois to Loretta (Doran) and John Noonan. Mike graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in political science and history.
Mike had an interesting life which included living on the island of Kauai, Hawaii for 15 years. There, he was in the movie, “The Hawaiians” filmed on Kauai and frequently enjoyed talking politics with Charlton Heston. He went to Kauai as a history teacher and later went into real estate where he owned his own realty company, Kauai Properties. In 1975 he was named Realtor of the Year in Hawaii. He was vice-president of the State of Hawaii Realty Board, President of the island of Kauai Realty Board, Chairman of the Hawaii State Ethics Committee and was a prominent member of the Kauai Rotary Club. While in Hawaii he earned his CRS, ABR, and GRI.
Upon returning to the mainland, Mike and family moved to Tabor City, NC where he continued his Rotary membership and was a realtor with Century 21 Sunset Realty. He is listed in Who’s Who in North Carolina Real Estate.
Mike is survived by his wife Alice, sons Michael of Busan, South Korea and Patrick of Pembroke, NC.
