I sure do one of my greatest friends. I miss him all the time think of him a lot had some great time together lots of laughs and great times the last time I was in Ocean Island Beach. I went by his chair and still remember all the times that he was there, laughing and joking with all the customers, but I was special I sat in his lap and told him Santa Claus this is what I want for Christmas. Love to the family merry Christmas to everyone and the family William Stone.

Such sad news for Johnny’s family and huge number of friends. As many have noted, a true icon and legend of Ocean Isle has passed and we are left with many treasured memories of a man who was cherished by his community.  I spoke with him every time I stopped in Sheffield’s for the past 50 years.  He always had a smile, kind words and wisdom to share with all who frequented his place.
Wendy and family will be in our prayers and we extend deepest sympathies to all of you. Above all, Johnny was the consummate “family man” and the wonderful photos lovingly show this.

One of the great ones … mr Sheffield helped us out when we ran out of food on our graduation trip to oib … came in and was counting out change … he said take what you need …, that kinda stuff is life changing …. God bless this family… may his spirit continue thru the generations . 

It is with a heavy heart that I read Johnny's Obituary.  I was in the same class with Johnny at Pinehurst. I only have happy memories of him growing up.
Both of our families started enjoying Ocean Isle Beach, before the bridge was built. After the bridge, and after our family grew, we started renting houses each summer on the beach. We would often see Johnny, and other family members, at your store to catch up.
Later on, when we could not get a house large enough, we moved to Holden Beach, and continued there for many more years. Some of the family would still return to your store from time to time.
I also have many childhood memories of lots of your family that we visited in Eastwood. Every time I pass the store, I just smile.
I specially remember Patricia, as she and my sister Joan were in the same class. We lost Joan last spring, as she had suffered with failing health  for many years. I do relate to your lost loved one.

Go Ask Johnny!
When my family began coming to OIB in 1986, my husband and I soon learned  anything you needed, or you had a question about around Ocean Isle Beach,, all you had to do was go ask Johnny.,
A trip to OIB was not complete unless you went by Sheffields. Sheffields is more than an island landmark, it is a legacy. 
Our children grew up knowing Johnny and over the years  learned his family.
No better people has this world had.  Johnny and his family and employees have been a blessing to our family and have been a part of our happy memories and place at OIB.
Johnnys smile and kind heart is how we always will remember him and no doubt we will feel his spirit each time we walk through Sheffields doors!  If you have visited most recently, you know he is there.
You do not have to ask “ Is Johnny here?”.
Just say  “Hi Johnny” and smile.

So many simple drop by hello's or I need a little help, Johnny - over the years.  Expecting to always see him at the store, we unintentionally took his friendliness, knowledge and sense of humor for granted.  He was known and loved by locals and visitors alike.    Wendy, I have no words,  sending  prayers.  To the kids, carry him with you in your hearts and know he will be watching over you.

To your family from ours, we are so terribly sorry for your loss.  

Johnny used to rent us a Jon boat every year when the kids were little.  He would fix us up with chicken necks and poles and bait. He was always there to help when we returned. The kids loved him!  After the kids were grown we would visit him. He would always ask “ how are things in big Atlanta “?  He was such a friendly sweet man .  Our condolences to family and friends. RIP Johnny. We will miss you.

I have been purchasing my fishing bait and supplies from Sheffield's for nearly 20 years.  They have a little bit of everything and their prices  were good for a resort area.  All the family have always been very cordial.   I will be praying for the family as they deal with this loss.

I met Johnny & Wendy in 2000 when we started looking for our place at the beach. I've always liked going to to the store and supporting them and talking to them. Very nice family oriented business, which you don't see much of these days. Prayers for you Wendy and the family as you remember Johnny today. May he RIP as a great servant of his fellow man. 

Johnny Sheffield was a good man good person and he will be missed by so many people specially Ocean Isle Beach people. It will not be the same without him over there but the family you’re in my prayers.

Johnny was my brother in law and a good friend. He always made us laugh. There was never a dull moment with him. He loved everybody and did unto others as he wanted them to do unto him. He is truly going to be missed, but we will see him again in heaven. Continue praying for my sister Wendy ,Louise,Kyle,Eva and Johnathan. 

I am so sorry to hear of Johnny's passing. I have 30 years of memories
of my neighbor and friend. Johnny played many practical jokes on me. All clever and we'll played. My Sheffield's monthly bill was higher than my rent in the 1990's. I watched as Wendy and Johnny worked hard at the store and raised two beautiful children and a sweet beagle. I send my deepest sympathy to Wendy, Louise, Johnathan and family.

Johnny was a cherished brother-in-law. What a kind sweet soul he was and this is how I "Sandy" will always remember him. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of my life long friend Johnny Sheffield.  We grew up together in the small community of Eastwood, NC.  I attended both grammar school and high school with Johnny and have so many fond memories of our childhood and the many great times we spent together.  Although we went our separate ways not long after high school I thought often of Johnny and how important he was to me as we were growing up together.  He was a loyal and steadfast friend that I could always depend on.  Those are the type friendships that remain valuable throughout your entire life.

My prayers are with Johnnie's family. I always buy my shrimp from him because I can trust how they are handled. Johnnie was a truck driver and I built trucks @ Freightliner TMP, we had something in common. We always talked how the trucking industry was doing and how many trucks we were building. I always enjoyed our talks and couldn't wait to see him the next time I was in town. I am glad I got to talk with him this month but sad it was my last to see him. He always had time to socialize and give updates on anything new going on at the beach.

Hi this is William Stone been a friend of John Sheffield a long time wanted to let the family know me and wife are thinking of u and may God’s blessings be upon you at this time of need I can’t remember a long time ago. We were in Kalamazoo Michigan and he called his sister and asked her I bet you don’t know where I’m at she said Kalamazoo Michigan John did not forget that for over two weeks. He said he could not believe that she knew where we were at loving memory of my friend William Stone.

Johnny, I will miss your sunny smile.  You will be sorely missed!
