Harry Ernest Duncan II

Harry Duncan, 60, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC was called to heaven on July 12, 2022 from his home, surrounded by his wife, Lydia, and other family and dear friends. He was the son of Carmela Duncan Kane of Sunset Beach, NC and the late Harry Ernest Duncan.

Thanks to his nurse Ashley of LCFL Hospice Care Centers, Harry’s desire to leave this world from the comfort of his home was made possible. During his short life, Harry enjoyed his time fishing with his father, his friends and his brother-n-law, Richard. He also drew great joy from hosting a pig-picking and sharing his father’s secret bar b que sauce recipe. He was often called upon by his sister, Pam, to join him in his woodworking shop where they would proudly make something together using the skills they learned from their father. Harry would always make time to be with anyone who needed him.

As the owner/driver of Beaches Taxi for 8 years, Harry met many customers who became dear friends. He took a special interest in the safety of the young ladies and teenage boys and the well-being of the elderly to whom he would provide services to the doctor and grocery store, often free of charge. His heart was one of selfless service where his customers were concerned. In return, he felt the love that they had for him. Beaches Taxi was more than just a business to Harry. It was his way to connect and serve the world. His legacy will live on through his very dear friend and partner in Beaches Taxi, Robbie Roberts, who will continue to serve their customers with the same quality of care.

In 2018, after 8 years of a long distance romance, Harry married the love of his life, Lydia. He declared these last years to be the happiest of his life as they welcomed many friends and family into their beautiful new home to celebrate birthdays and holidays. Together they prepared great food and entertained many happy individuals creating lasting memories for all who were blessed to be invited. He was happiest when he was engaged in conversation with a friend or family member. His care for others showed in his attentiveness to their words and he often saw thru those words and into another’s heart. This period of his life was way too short but he was showered with love, devotion and the best of care during his final months as Lydia never left his side.

Through Harry’s involvement with Camp United Methodist Church and his relationship with Pastor Steve Murphy, he walked closely with our Lord Jesus Christ. He felt at peace during his final days knowing that he would be reunited in heaven with his deceased loved ones and live a life free of pain in God’s presence.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Lydia Duncan; two sisters, Pam Batchelor and husband Currie of Calabash and Debbie Miller and husband Richard of Salisbury, NC; a niece, Christina Miller and a nephew, Jacob Yount.

A memorial service will be held Sunday July 24, 2022 at three o'clock in the afternoon at Camp United Methodist Church with Reverend Terry Williams officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 pm until 2:45 pm at the church prior to the service.
