Mr. Fulford was born September 6, 1929 in Brunswick County, son of the late Samuel David Fulford and Mattie Hewett Fulford. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He also worked for Corps of Engineers for over 30 years, beginning as a surveyor and was promoted to a dredge boat inspector until his retirement. After retirement he worked for Brunswick County Public Utilities as inspector for water line installation. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening, and just talking with his friends. He was a new member of Dixon Chapel Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his hunting partners and uncles, Henry Fulford and Cecil Fulford along with his special friend Talmadge Varnam.
Survivors include his children, David Leo Fulford, Jr. of Supply, Michael Dean Fulford and wife Gaye of Supply, and Karen Ferguson and husband Billy of Supply; three grandchildren, Michael Carson Fulford, David Shane Fulford, and Matthew Fulford; three great grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathleen Jacobs of Supply and Betty Galloway of Supply.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 22, 2023 at eleven o'clock in the morning at Dixon Chapel Methodist Church with Reverend Gerald Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in Sabbath Home Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael C. Fulford, Shane Fulford, Matthew Fulford, Sammy Jacobs, L.C. Fulford, and Doug Todd. Honorary Pallbearer will be Ennis Swain.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
