Mr. Evans was born in Wayne Co. N.C. on January 25, 1929 and was the son of the late James W. and Katie Edwards Evans. He graduated at Mt. Olive High School and attended Kings College. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served as a medic in WWII. Mr. Evans was an Eagle Scout and a mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He retired from CP&L after 35 years of employment. Mr. Evans was a very creative artesian famous for creating Tiffany stained glass lamps and frames. He was very athletic and enjoyed bike riding and ran several marathons.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean Merritt Evans; three daughters, Gail Evans Corn and husband Gary of Hendersonville, N.C.; Joan Elaine Grady of Supply, N.C.; and Caroline Evans Beaudry and husband Charles of Graham, N.C.; three grandchildren, Kenneth Charles Corn; Charles Liam Beaudry; Elijah Stewart Beaudry; and four great-grandchildren.
