Peggy Jean Sexton Alexander, of Easton, CT, formerly of Seminole, FL, passed away peacefully January 17, 2012 at Bridgeport Hospital, Bridgeport, CT, with her daughter Kim Alexander-Caprio at her side. Mrs. Alexander – Peggy to friends and family -- was 84 years old. She moved to Connecticut four years ago to be close to her family and loved the beautiful surroundings and rural charm.
Born in Ardmore, OK, to George and Mary Williams Sexton, Mrs. Alexander moved to Illinois during WWII to be with her sister, Mary Sexton Poulton. She obtained a degree in education from Illinois State University in Normal, IL in 1949. She taught home economics during the 1950s. An avid lifelong seamstress, Mrs. Alexander was still sewing well into her 80s.
Mrs. Alexander was a lifelong Presbyterian and served as deacon and elder in various Presbyterian churches in Illinois, Ohio and Florida. At the time of her death she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairfield, CT.
Mrs. Alexander is survived by daughters, Kim Mari' Alexander-Caprio of Easton, CT., and Becky Sari’ Popenoe of Pleasanton, CA. Other family include granddaughters, Brooke Alexander-Caprio of the home, and Lindsay Gentry (Brian) of Suisun, CA; grandson, Eric Sanders of Pleasanton, CA; son-in-law, Vincent Caprio of Easton; nieces, Gail Poulton (Chris Verner) of Salisbury, NC and Suzanne Poulton Starseed of Richmond, VA; nephew, Winston Charles Poulton (Katherine Powell) of Hawthorne, FL; great-niece, Marissa Barbee (Richmond, VA) and great-nephew, Travis Verner (Boone, NC).
Mrs. Alexander’s husband, Willis Annan Alexander, as well as her parents, sister, brother-in-law, Winston C. Poulton, and brother, Paul Sexton, preceded her in death.
A memorial service was held for Mrs. Alexander January 21st at First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield. A Florida service is planned for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Garden Sanctuary Funeral Home and Cemetery. Committal prayers and burial to follow with Reverend Paul Aughinbaugh officiating.
