Norman attended PS79 and PS80 primary schools and Dewitt Clinton High school in the Bronx. He attended NYC University graduating with a degree as an MD.
Dr. Siegel then was in the service of our country from 1942-1945, as a bomber pilot with the 9th Air Force. After the service he attended Pace University majoring in Educational Communications.
Dr. Norman Siegel worked his way thru the ranks serving as Director of Public Health, Director of Model Health Plans, Director of Outreach Services, and ultimately served as Assistant Commissioner of Health for the city of New York. He was made a Fellow of American Public Health. Was president of NYC alumni Assoc. He was invited by the American Health Assoc. to train people in India on Health and Hygiene and establish the American Public Health counterpart program. Dr. Siegel also went to Egypt to study the causes of Ameobiasis.
Dr. Siegel also published the first baby book for NYC. School Days, a publication, which went to all children and parents going to school for the first time. He helped develop articles and publications on child health services. Dr. Siegel was responsible for educational services and development of continuing medical education for staff and medical community. He was responsible for producing community materials for display at the meeting of Health Organization for NYC. Dr. Siegel also received a commendation from the city of New York for initiating the practice of giving all new borns a social security number.
He retired in 1982 and settled in Pinellas Park Florida.
Dr. Siegel and his wife will be inurned with military honors at 10:45 a.m.Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 at Bay Pines National Cemetery in Bay Pines, Florida.
