John Charles Norris

NORRIS, John Charles, 76, of Largo, Florida, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Suncoast Hospice Care Center in Pinellas Park, Florida. He was born October 15, 1938 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, the son of Edgar Leon and Eleanor Alberta (Headland) Norris. John was raised and schooled in Navarre, Ohio, where he enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1957. In 1958 he enlisted in the Air Force where he served until 1962. While serving at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, he met his future wife, Joyce M. Taber. In 1962 they moved to Largo, Florida after his last Air Force assignment in Plattsburgh, New York. John retired from Honeywell Corp. after 33 years and later worked as head of security for Jabil Circuits in Pinellas Park, Florida. He was a member of Bay Ridge Baptist Church in Seminole, Florida and was actively involved with C.E.F. Camp and served as a counselor at many church camps. He received his Associates Degree in Bible-Psychology from Clearwater Christian College.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by sons, John C. Norris, Jr. and David L. Norris; a sister, Helen M. Hinderer; and a grandson, Daniel A. Norris.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joyce M; a daughter, Valerie K. Schaefer; a foster daughter, Rhonda Sue Guy; a brother, Edgar Arthur Norris; grandchildren, John C. Norris, III, Mark A. Norris, Kayla C. Norris, Brad S. Schaefer, and David L. Norris, Jr., and four great grandchildren.

Visitation held 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Bay Ridge Baptist Church, 6155 113th St. Seminole, Florida. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Garden Sanctuary Cemetery in Seminole.
