Donna Jean Thompson

Donna Thompson, a resident of Redington Beach, FL, who passed away at the age of 90 on March 13, 2024. Born on November 11, 1933, in Chicago, IL, Donna was the daughter of Kimball Atkinson and Helen Meinard Burgin.

Donna lived in and went to school in Chicago. After graduation she moved to New York and worked as an assistant buyer for a major department store. Following that she moved to Michigan for a few years. Later then she married her husband, James (Bud) Thompson. And they were together for 49 years until he passed on. Together they started a successful family plumbing business. She later owned her own exercise studio. After she and her husband retired they started traveling and ended up buying their dream home in Florida. They enjoyed many years there, boating and fishing in the gulf, watching dolphins go by in the canal in their backyard. After he passed, one of her favorite things to go was go for walks with her best four legged friend Foxy.

Everyone loved her. She was known for her great margaritas. She was still serving them to friends even if she wasn’t feeling her best. She wanted to make people feel special. She was a great hostess. And if you got margaritas and her much loved chocolate chip cookies, she REALLY liked you. Everyone loved her spunk and quick wit. She was the best Mom and friend to all.

She was very determined to live her life out at home-and she accomplished this with the help of great friends, neighbors and family. All through her life she was guided by her favorite Bible prayer, Psalms 23, The Lord is my Shepard.

She is survived by her three daughters, Jennifer (Pat) Schroeder, Julie Shalda and Kim Anderson. She is pre-deceased by another daughter, Leslie Thompson Perello. Grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Ticcioni, Zach Anderson, Nicholas Anderson. Her sister Barbara Bade, predeceased by another sister, Beverly Dietmeyer. She also had many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of her great neighbors, friends, and caregivers who helped our Mom in the final days of her life.
