Charles “Chuck” Raymond Wilson III, 55 of Redington Beach, FL passed away suddenly on January, 27th, 2015. He was coaching his son’s Blessed Sacrament Catholic School’s basketball team and collapsed on the court (after draining a 3 pointer). The cause of death was a heart attack.
Born on September 10, 1959 in Dayton, Ohio, Chuck was the only child of Charles (dec.) and Eva Rena Wilson. Growing up in Ohio, he spent summers in the countryside in Kentucky and Virginia. He had fond memories of his cousins hitching him to the pony cart for rides around farm. He was never without a ball in his hand, so much so that his mom was concerned it would become attached.
He lived in Dayton until age 14 when his family moved to Sumter County, Florida. The move was best described as city-boy moves to the country and he described his high school friends as fun-loving rednecks. He attended South Sumter High School and went on to graduate from the University of South Florida in Tampa with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance.
Chuck was married on May 30, 1997 to Linda J. McGowan and they have two beautiful children Shannon, 16 and Chase 13. He loved his wife and family with a passion and expressed that love every minute of every day with kind words, genuine warmth and thoughtfulness.
Chuck spent most of his career in the financial industry as a stockbroker and financial advisor. While the financial business was always his passion, 5 years ago he decided to join the family business, Wilson Realty as a Real Estate Professional and Property Manager. He made this move so he could spend more time doing what he loved, being with his family. He took joy in every moment he spent with them. A dear friend described it best, that Chuck had spent more time as a son, husband and father in his short time with us than most men spend in their entire lives.
Chuck’s passions revolved around his children, family and friends. He was never without a smile on his face and looked for the best in everything. He would often repeat a quote from our young daughter who told him “Dad, it is always a little sunny out!”
Chuck loved all sports and was very active coaching his children’s various teams over the years and is affectionately remembered by many as Coach Chuck. From coaching T-Ball when the kids were little, years of soccer, football and track. In addition, he spent the past 5 years as the basketball coach at his son’s school and took time off in the summer to run a basketball camp for kids. Chuck loved teaching the players the fundamentals of the game, but more importantly he taught them good sportsmanship and encouraged them to play hard, but fair and to “leave it all on the court.” It was his sincerest hope that the lessons he taught on the court and field would carry over into the player’s lives giving them the foundation to grow into young men and women of honor and integrity.
Chuck loved music and had incredible rhythm. From classic Elvis to Rock to funk he loved it all. He played drums and would tap out a beat on anything around. The steering wheel in his truck was the recipient of many a drum solo.
Chuck also loved to spend time with his friends just hanging out swapping stories, enjoying a cold beer or a round of golf. As a conservative and a Catholic, Chuck loved politics and world affairs and would often engage in spirited discussions with friends on the latest news. Being around Chuck made people happy. He was always smiling and quick to laugh.
He is survived by his spouse, Linda J. Wilson, Redington Beach, daughter Shannon Alexa Wilson, age 16 and son Charles “Chase” Raymond Wilson IV, his mother Eva Rena Wilson Toole also of Redington Beach and Mother-in-Law Constance McGowan of Redington Shores. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father Charles R. Wilson II and his father-in-law Walter McGowan.
