75, of Seminole, Florida, met her Savior on Sunday, April 21, 2012 at Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Florida. She was born in Cohen, New York on December 24, 1937, the daughter of John and Jane (Peterson) Sullivan.
She earned her nursing license at the Utica State School of Nursing and worked at several hospitals in Upstate New York. Later, she worked as a social worker until she found her passion as a Nursing Home Administrator. While raising a family of four, she went to school full-time to obtain her Health Service Management degree at State University College at Utica/Rome.
She moved to Florida in 1982, and had a successful career as a Nursing Home Administrator for over 25 years. Carol was an active member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She volunteered at Hospice and was a care-giver for several close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Cheryl; a granddaughter, Meghan; and a brother, William.
Survivors include her daughter, Robin, and her husband, Mike Grimmer of Seminole, FL: three sons, Kenneth Paul Sweetland, Jr. of St. Ansgar, IA, James Patrick Sweetland of Manhattan, NY, and Brian James Sweetland and his wife, Shelley of Largo, Fl; ten beloved grandchildren, Danielle, Johnny, Ryan, and Matthew Grimmer, and Kyle, Josh, Nick, Tyler, Marissa and Jenica Sweetland; two brothers, Jack Sullivan of Cape Canaveral, Fl, and Thomas (Jean) Sullivan of Cocoa Beach, Fl., a sister, Katherine (Kurt) Schachtler of Waterville, NY; three sister in-laws: Joan (Joe) Madore of Metairie, LA, Annette Sullivan, of Roswell, NM, and Sylvia Barnes of Marcy,NY; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 25th from 5-7pm at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, April 26th at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Largo, Florida. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Kenneth at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater, Florida.
