On November 29, 1929, Ruth was born in a farming community near La Grange, Texas to George and Emma (Buscha) Harbers. After working as a telephone operator, she married Leon “Jiggs” Mrazek on June 20, 1953 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Baytown, Texas. His job with the railroad took Ruth & Jiggs out to West Texas; they settled in El Paso where their four children were born. In 1967, Jiggs’ job brought them back to Central Texas where they settled in Kingsbury. Ruth enjoyed being a homemaker and being just plain “Mom”. Ruth supported her children’s activities and enjoyed attending everything from her sons’ Little League games through her daughters’ college volleyball matches. Her support later extended to her grandchildren and their awards, music, drama and sports events.
Ruth’s life revolved around her church, home and family – she truly lived her faith in all that she did. She enjoyed cardinals, bluebonnets, gardening, family reunions, Bible study, parades and the American flag. After living in West Texas, she especially loved a good rainstorm. At Evangelists’ Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday School , held office in the Ladies Aide and was always on hand to visit nursing homes, work Vacation Bible School or cook a meal. Ruth worked with Jiggs in the McQueeney VFW Bingo canteen and also served as the VFW Auxiliary Chaplain. Whether reunion, church or VFW event -- no matter what the function, she rarely went home until the last dish was washed.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 59 years Leon Mrazek; daughter Debbie Minzenmeyer and husband Gary and their children Eric & Matt; daughter Donna Haines and husband Aubrey and favorite grand-dog Lolli; son Russell Mrazek and wife Sharon and their children Dustin, Lauren and Ethan; son Rodney Mrazek and wife Brenda and their children Carrie, Cathie, Cassie and Colin; and five great grand-children. Ruth’s nine grandchildren will serve as her pallbearers. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents and 9 brothers and sisters: Walter, Pete, Victor, Lawrence, Viola, Mildred, Audrey, Alice, and Thelma.
Visitation with family present will be held Wednesday, February 20th at Goetz Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 21st at 10:30 a.m. at Evangelists’ Lutheran Church 7745 Kingsbury Road (F.M. 2438 North of Hwy. 90) in Kingsbury followed by interment at Kingsbury Cemetery with lunch following . In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or Evangelists’ Lutheran Church Parrish Kitchen Fund, P.O. Box 176 Kingsbury, TX 78638.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Heather Banks, Dr. Kathleen Rockwood, and especially the caregivers, nurses and staff at AlzCare New Braunfels for being Ruth’s loving extended family while she lived there.
