Freddie Allen Rhodes Jr.
Rhodes, Freddie Allen Jr. of Seguin passed away after a weekend fall on Monday, November 3, 2014 at the age of 90 years old. Freddie was born Monday, August 18, 1924 in Humble, Texas to Freddie Allen and Jessie Alma (Preston) Rhodes. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Elton B. Rhodes and his sister Marie Skinner.
Freddie’s life is one of a true love story. Freddie met his wife to be, Antoinette McCoy, when he was seventeen and she was just 15 years old. After a little more than a year courting they decided to run away and get married. Those plans ended when Antoinette’s parents insisted on a church wedding. They were married on December 23, 1942 in Victoria TX. Throughout their entire 71 year marriage, Freddie would awake each morning and tell Antoinette; “You are so beautiful”. Freddie worked hard; going to work as a roughneck in the oilfields working for Humble Pipeline. He stayed with the company and moved up through the ranks, working in the Alice, TX office, Corpus Christie, TX office, becoming a Humble Oil Area Manager while stationed at the Pleasanton, TX office and then becoming an Area Supervisor in Luling, TX after Exxon was formed in 1973 from a merger between Humble Oil and Standard Oil of New Jersey. Freddie took an early retirement from Exxon –Mobil in 1986 so that he and Antoinette could travel together. During his retirement they had many adventures with one of their longest trips taking them up the West coast to Washington, through Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado, with Colorado being their favorite destination.
Freddie leaves behind his loving wife of seventy one years, Antoinette; his nephew, James P. Skinner and his wife Cynthia and their children James, Jon and Jessica; his niece, Tammy Ritenoor and her husband Klaus; his niece, Gail Smith and nephew, Patrick McCoy. He also leaves behind his “adopted grand-daughter”, Melissa Zeinert and her husband Gary and their children Garrison and Zane. He will also be missed by his special friends Maurine and Elvin Stinson.
Freddie loved to hear his wife read the bible to him; reading cover to cover several times. He never missed telling her 25 to 30 times a day “I love you so much”.
