Alex Mata

Retired MSGT, Alex Mata was born on March 7, 1931 to Fernando and Guadalupe Mata in Seguin, Texas, passed away on April 17, 2016 at the age of 85. He is a graduate of Seguin High School and a graduate of Texas State University. On August 19, 1956 he married Ernestine Paez. Together they have four children; James (Judy) Mata, Alex (Chris) Mata, Lisa (Michael) Resendez and Karyn Mata; grandchildren, Christina Saenz, Jonathan Mata, Aaron and Ryan Resendez, Elise, Larra and Eric Mata; and 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Garcia of San Marcos, Texas. He served 23 years in the United States Air Force from 1951-1974. After retirement he was employed with the US Postal Service in Luling, Texas until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed jogging, golf and was an avid New York Yankee’s fan. Assisting as Pallbearers; Aaron Resendez, Jonathan Mata, Eric Mata, Ryan Resendez, Christian Martinez and Michael Resendez. Visitation will begin on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 5pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7pm at Goetz Funeral Home. A funeral procession will depart at 11am for an 11:30am Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to Guadalupe Regional Medical Foundation Cancer Fund at 1215 E. Court St, Seguin, Texas 78155. Arrangements are entrusted to Goetz Funeral Home.
