Paddy or “The Duke” as he was known to all family and friends was born in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen in 1933. The fourth of six children, Paddy was predeceased by his father William P. Donnelly, mother Catherine (nee Mount), brother Thomas Donnelly, and sisters Catherine Huston, and Mary Hayden.
He is survived by his sisters Florence Colavito, Margaret Marra-Cutola and many nieces and nephews.
Paddy is also predeceased by his first wife Heather (nee Mitchell) Donnelly whom together they had four children Selina Fitch, Catherine Topham, William Donnelly and his wife Cathy, and Maureen A. Melms and her husband Steve. Besides his four children he is survived by ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Paddy was also predeceased by his second wife Susanna (nee Cinfuentes) Donnelly.
Paddy grew up in New York City until he moved with his family to New Jersey in the late 1950s. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1950 to 1952.
Paddy worked for many decades in New York City’s construction industry for Derrickmen Local 197 and later also worked as a doorman with Building Service 32BJ before retiring in 1996.
Originally a passionate NY Giants baseball fan, Paddy adopted and then became an ardent NY Mets fan. Paddy was also an avid music lover going to see many concerts and had a large and diverse record collection.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1 from 3pm to 7pm at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ 07094. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at 10:00 am at Mack Memorial Home in Secaucus with burial following at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
