A life-long resident of Secaucus, Robert prided himself on his family and service to his community.
Robert served as a Secaucus Police Officer for over 20 years. He began his law enforcement career as a special police officer in 1976 and was appointed a patrolman in 1978. Thereafter, he spent two years as a plainclothes officer before his appointment to the detective bureau in 1986, and subsequent promotion to rank of detective in 1988. He was later forced to retire in 1998 due to serious injuries sustained in the line of duty. During his tenure as an officer Robert had the distinct honor of serving as the Secaucus PBA local #84 President from 1982-1988.
Robert’s commitment to his community continued through his position as a Secaucus Property Maintenance Inspector which he held for 14 years until he relinquished same due to his illness in 2018.
Robert was a proud member of the New Jersey Police Honor Legion, and a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church of Secaucus.
Robert truly lived his life through the simple pleasures of chatting with family and friends and spending time with those whom he loved. He had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and meaningful way.
Robert is predeceased by a son Stanton Zych;
He is survived by his beloved wife Annette (Zaccario) Zych; as well as his daughter, Lauren Colangelo, her loving husband Alessandro; his oldest son, Robert M. Zych, his fiancé Carla M. Chaparro; his youngest son, Matthew Zych and his wife Heather; and his dearest grandchildren Alessandro, Nicola, Luciana, Nicholas and Hannah;
Visitation will be held on Thursday March 14, 2019 from 4 to 8 PM at the Mack Memorial Home 1245 Paterson Plank Rd. in Secaucus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 9:30 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church in Secaucus. Committal service will be held at the Garden State Crematory 4101 Kennedy Blvd. in North Bergen.
