Robert F. Montagne Sr.- 89 of Secaucus, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 4, 2010. Born in North Bergen, he attended Union Hill High School and volunteered for the Navy shortly after Pearl Harbor. He served in the Pacific as a Navy Seabee and was part of the invasion of Tarawa and the occupation of Japan in Nagasaki after the dropping of the atomic bomb. He retired as a Captain of the North Bergen Fire Department in 1984 after more than 30 years of service. Bob had a keen mind and was interested in many things, especially electrical instruments and mechanics. He loved to read, travel and work in his shop. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, which he never lost. Son of the late Frank and Kathryn Montagne of North Bergen, he is survived by his wife Helen (Korba) Montagne and 3 children and their spouses: Diane Montagne and Andrew Kulley, Princeton Junction; Robert Jr. and Betty Montagne, Little Falls; and John and Susan Montagne, Forked River. He also leaves three grandchildren, Edmund Haemmerle, Marlowe Kulley and Amanda Montagne, and two great-grandchildren, Edmund and Daniel Haemmerle. In addition, he is survived by two siblings: Dorothy Morrill, Concord, NH and Frank Montagne, Forked River.
