The Sport of Kings lost a loyal fan when Robert Bologna, age 79, of Secaucus, New Jersey passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Although it was Robert’s heart that gave out, it was surprisingly not from shouting a string of very unkinglike expletives during the final stretch of a race.
Robert was the co-owner and operator of Universal Management and A&R Paints aka “The Paint Store” in Secaucus for many years before retiring in 2020. He spent almost 50 years of his life with his loving wife Maryann.
Although he would frown at me laying out his life in bullet points, I would be remiss if I did not share his endless generosity, a passion for music so strong that it became deeply rooted in all his children and grandchildren, and a gift for finding and spreading laughter in even the darkest moments.
He is survived by his wife Maryann; his children, Christopher Bologna, Robert Bologna Jr., Leigh Bologna, and his favorite, (and author of this obituary) Sarah Repinski and her husband Russ; and his cherished grandchildren Robert III, Vincent, and Mila.
A visitation for Robert will be held Wednesday, December 13, from 4 to 8 PM at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ 07094. His Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in his honor to the St. Jude's Children Research Hospital and if you’re feeling lucky, maybe head down to the racetrack and bet a trifecta in his honor.
