On January 19th, 2024, our hearts were heavy as we said our final goodbyes to a remarkable woman, Merlyne Desvarieux Dwyer. Merlyne was born in the vibrant island of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1961, to parents Jude and Lorenza. Her life journey then took her from the bustling streets of Brooklyn, New York in her childhood years to the historic city of Boston, Massachusetts in her teenage years and finally, she found her home in the warm embrace of Orlando, Florida in her adult years.
Merlyne was not only a beloved wife, a cherished mother, and a doting sister, but also a beacon of compassion and care as she pursued her calling in nursing. Her educational pursuits led her to Loma Linda University and Atlantic Union College, where she honed her skills and nurtured her passion for helping others. Merlyne's kindness and nurturing spirit shone brightly in her work, particularly with children, leaving an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
Her marriage to Kirsten Dwyer was a union of 26 years. Together, they were blessed with a son, Daniel Dwyer, the apple of Merlyne's eye. The bond between mother and son was a testament to the depth of love that knows no bounds.
Merlyne found immense joy in her relationship with her sister and lifelong confidante, Judy. Together, they created countless cherished memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew them. Merlyne's culinary skills were legendary, and her delicious dishes were a centerpiece at every family gathering. Cooking was not just a task for her; it was an expression of love and a source of pride.
As a woman of deep faith, Merlyne's connection with the Lord was unwavering. She found solace in prayer, and her love for Christian literature was a reflection of her spiritual journey. Her devotion to God illuminated her path, providing comfort and strength to those around her.
Merlyne leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth. She is survived by her husband, Kirsten Dwyer, her adored son, Daniel Dwyer, her father Mollet Cenafils and his wife Marie Carmelle, her loving sister, Judith Desvarieux, her brothers Ev'ns Cenafils and wife Nadine Cenafils, Marco Cenafils and wife Micheline Cenafils, her baby sister Mollene Harrington, and her uncles Pastor Gabriel Desvarieux and Wilner Noisette. In addition, she leaves behind nieces and nephews Erica Valcourt, Michaela Cenafils, Kam’ren Harrington, Myah Cenafils, Tyler Harrington, Milan Cenafils, and Mia Cenafils. Merlyne is also remembered by a host of cousins, the Desvarieux, Duvignaud, Fougy, François, Israel, Julien, Maynard, Michel, Noisette, Obas, Pascale, Perceval, Roy, Saint-Jean, and Souffrant families, and several relatives and friends, all of whom were touched by her kindness and grace.
As we bid farewell to Merlyne Dwyer, let us remember her not with tears, but with the love she shared, the laughter she brought, and the legacy of compassion she leaves behind. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a source of comfort to us all.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to Daniel Dwyer's college fund in memory of Merlyne, who was extremely excited about her son’s college journey. He will continue his studies in Computer Science in her honor. Contributions can be sent through Zelle at [email protected]. Thank you.
