Just learned of Alan’s death. Back in Union City in the sixties and early seventies he and his brother Bill were friends of mine. The Rauh family was extraordinary and offered a neighborhood gathering spot for many replete with a turtle pen, basketball court, and winter time ice hockey rink in their backyard.

So sorry to see this obituary while searching Internet. Alan was a childhood friend of mine.

Dad,
I know it's been almost seven months since you've been called home.  It's been very difficult to come to terms with. I think about you every day and miss calling you to share all things that have been happening, good or bad. I  appreciated and loved the relationship we had. Although you came into my life when I was 25 and never had a real dad, you know I considered you one wholeheartedly.   You were there for me for both Charles and Mackenzies birth. You took on the Boompa (grandpa) roll much more magical than I could have ever imagined. You were there for me everytime my life was tough and ALWAYS knew how to make me see things in the correct respective. You made me laugh...... a lot. Omg I would have tears rolling down my cheeks and sometimes needed a depends. You were an amazing husband to my mother. You treated her nothing  less than a queen. Dam it I miss you terribly.  I miss our talks and want to thank you for still being that dad even when Mom passed. I am so happy that we stayed a family even though I am now 2200 miles away and I am proud to call you dad. I talk of you and mom everyday. I think about you both everyday. 
Please watch over Charles and Mackenzie.  Thank you for giving me the true gift of what a father and daughter felt like. There is no man better than you and NEVER will be. Alan your going to be dearly missed my friend. You have a lot of ppl in the Elms building that loved you very much. I remember a couple days after you moved here you were sitting on the curb to the side entrance of the building. I walked over to you and said. Hello my name is Gary, I asked if you were ok and wanted to sit with us. You said hi Gary with tears in your eyes and told me ty but not now. You were grieving over Jackie the love of your life. 
   Finally you came over to the benches a couple days later. I introduced you to everyone. And everyone liked you. You were my big brother I never had. I love and miss you big brother. We've done a lot of things together and always have great conversations with much laughter. May you rest in peace my friend. I know your with Jackie and out of pain. God Speed ~Alan.
