

Adelia Berckes, began a new journey to join our father in heaven on Sat. Aug.15th. Adelia was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 11, 1927 to John and Mabel Sturnick. The oldest daughter of their three children, she graduated Lafayette High School and was working at Columbia Records in New York City. On August 15 1954, she met Robert Berckes who she would marry May 28, 1955. Moving to Secaucus, NJ, they created a home for their family and built many friendships and became active in the local community.
Adelia was a part of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3776 serving as President. She worked as an administrator at Huber Street School during elections for over 40 years. She was also a member of the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of Immaculate Conception Church.
Adelia worked for twenty year at Sears Distribution Center in North Bergen for twenty years until it closed.
Adelia leaves behind her husband Robert and children; John, his wife Theresa, Patricia Fugnitti, her husband Tom, Janet Grecco-Vaughan, her husband Brit and Bob Berckes.
She was a loving and dedicated grandmother to Meika Franz and husband Warren, Marie Crouch and husband Justin, Michelle Berckes, Morgan Alger and husband Thomas John, Thomas and Allison Fugnitti. She was also a loving Great-Grandmother to Biba Franz and Charlotte Adelia Crouch. A sister to Anna Capizzo and her husband Vito, she is predeceased by her parents and brother Walter. “Aunt Delie” to the local neighborhood and especially to Carol Mokrzycki, Eleanor Racz, Robert Lang, Kathleen Kilpatrick, Rich and Michael Berckes, Linda Dobson, Jackie Cervalo, their spouses and children.
She will be remembered for her love of family, her spirit and her chocolate chip cookies.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 4-8pm at Mack Memorial Home,1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ. The family will gather at the funeral home with their relatives and friends on Wednesday at 9AM for a 10AM funeral mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Secaucus. Interment to follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Adelia may be made to ,
