Bill was born on November 6, 1933 in Seattle to parents Alma May Ballinger Calvert and William Calvert. He attended the Lakeside School and the University of Washington. While at the University, Bill was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and the Ski Team. The UW is also where he met Diane Link his loving wife of more than 60 years.
After graduation Bill served in the United States Navy attaining the rank of Lt. (jg). Upon his discharge, Bill worked at the San Juan Fishing and Packing Company before beginning his career in the financial services industry. For over 25 years Bill was a stockbroker at Blyth & Co., Eastman Dillon, Paine Webber, and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.
Bill was a doting father who was adored by his three children. He spent countless hours teaching them how to throw, catch, hit, kick and ski. He was a natural coach who loved teaching. For years Bill coached the junior racing team at Crystal Mountain. Aside from his family, Bill’s other true passions were tennis and skiing. He was a regular at the Seattle Tennis Club, Mercer Island Tennis Club, and the Central Park Tennis Club where Bill was a founder and director. During the winter months, Bill could often be found on the slopes at Crystal Mountain or his beloved Sun Valley.
Bill’s life, and that of Diane’s, changed drastically in December 1986 when a skiing accident left him with a severe head injury. Diane remained his constant and loving companion for the past 30 years. While Bill’s daily activities were limited he kept a smile on his face and looked forward to each day.
Bill is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife Diane, sons Bill (Missy), Chris (Lorelei), daughter Wendy (Jim), and grandchildren Ryan, Chase, Matthew, Reid, Samantha, Katherine, Keilan, and Lucy. He is also survived by brothers John (Alice) and Craig (Kathy), and sister Carol (Rob).
