Tia was born on 11-22-1975 to Francis Werner and Sharon Benson in Troutdale, Oregon. She and her family moved to Mountlake Terrace, where she attended school.
Tia did not find it necessary to stick around at Mountlake Terrace High School. Instead, she dropped out of school, acquired a GED and started working toward a college degree. She moved to Arizona and attended the University of Phoenix. Tia worked two jobs and attended school full-time until she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing, while earning straight A’s. She also studied Human Resources and Nursing.
Tia worked in a wide variety of jobs in her short time with us, and it is apparent that she excelled at managing people. It didn’t matter what industry setting she was in; she was a natural at bringing people together.
In her personal life as well, Tia had the ability to make lifelong friends in a matter of minutes. Many friends and family would receive sage advice from Tia whether it was a situation she had been in or not.
It did not matter where she was, Tia was a friend to all. Tia was likely the smartest person in the room wherever she was, and with that, she humbly made everyone feel her equal. Tia had a very strong desire to live an altruistic life, and she did. Tia’s kind and generous nature showed in so many of her personal endeavors.
Tia was a lifelong Seahawks fan, loving dog mom, a fantastic chef and wine lover, and she liked to use music to bond with others.
Tia was predeceased by her loving father Francis Werner, her favorite Aunt Micki (Michell Oldham), and grandmother Lavon Black. She is survived by Nathan De Kay, love of her life; her mother Sharon Benson, sister Tammy Montana, brother-in-law Enrique Montana II, nephew Enrique Montana III, niece Isabella Montana, niece Colleen Kepler, sister Danielle Amport, brother Justin Skinner, and sister-in-law Danielle Skinner, other family members Chris De Kay, Scott De Kay, beloved friends Earl Bercot, Jerry Manioci and Melanie Green.
A private family moment will be held at Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral Home on February 26th, 2023. There will be a celebration of life announced in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Treehouse Seattle at treehouseforkids.org or the animal shelter of your choice.
