Mrs. Harlett, known as Terry, was born and raised in Pasadena, CA. After graduating from Pasadena City College she became a United Airlines stewardess in 1960, which allowed her to travel the world.
It was through a fellow stewardess that Terry met John Harlett, an officer in the US Navy in Seattle. The two were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1963, at St. Patrick’s Church.
The navy life took John and Terry all over the country. They resided in Honolulu, HI; Monterey, CA; Corvallis, OR; Annapolis, MD; Needham, MA; and Fairfax, VA. During these years they had three daughters and many adventures. Upon John’s retirement from the navy in 1984, the family returned to the Seattle area, settling in Kirkland. John Harlett passed away in 1999.
Terry Harlett led a busy life filled with many hobbies and interests. She became a member of Toastmasters, and was a docent at the Bellevue Art Museum. She studied Mandarin Chinese and traveled numerous times to Hong Kong and China. Terry was active in the Eastside Women’s Forum, started a book club, took up cross-country skiing and swing dancing, and enjoyed being a member of St. Therese Parish in Seattle, especially because of the Gospel Choir there.
Terry was also an accomplished fine artist, with particular talents in silk screening, watercolor painting, pencil and pastel drawing, pottery and sculpture, and portraiture.
Terry Harlett is survived by her daughters, Maria Shoup, Jennifer Harlett, and Sarah Harlett; her son-in-law Michael Shoup; her granddaughter, Kathyrn Shoup; and her sister, Judy Haus.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 10:00 AM at St. Therese Parish. Flowers may be sent to 900 35th Ave., Seattle, WA, 98122. Donations may be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (theaftd.org/).
