Suzanne Cook was born on December 31, 1938 just before midnight in Kharkov, Ukraine. When Suzanne was 4 years old, World War II broke out. Soldiers came into town and gathered all the people leading them to the train station taking them to the prison camp known as Dachau. Suzanne spent her 4th and 5th year of life in the prison camp. Once the war ended, the family moved to Belgium where they lived 7 years. Through a sponsorship program, the family had the opportunity to move to America and arrived on Ellis Island on November 11, 1953. Suzanne was 14 years old when the family came to Washington state. Suzanne was introduced to a young Polish man named Walter Cichonczyk. Suzanne was 15 years old and Walter was 22. They dated one year before they married on November 20, 1954. Walter and Suzanne were married 61 years.
Suzanne is survived by her children; Laurie (Philip) Logsdon and Walter (Michelle) Cook; Grandchildren Amy Van Ryswyk, James (Erin) Van Ryswyk Jr. and Andrea Cook (Renz) Melegrito; Great-grandchildren Samantha Van Ryswyk and Marvin Melegrito; and her sister Halina Thompson. Suzanne is preceded in death by her husband Walter Cook; her parents Roman and Serafina Podlesny; sister Nora Batman and her son Don Cook.
Suzanne was so proud to be a founding member of the First Slavic Full Gospel Church in Ballard. Suzanne was very involved in the church from its beginning.
Suzanne Cook passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025 with her children by her side.
