Susan was born June 4th, 1948 in Seattle, WA to Richard and Olga Davis. She grew up in Zenith, WA and attended Mt. Rainier High School, graduating in 1966. Susan went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music Education at Central Washington University in 1970. She then attended the University of Southern California where she graduated with her master’s degree in Vocal Performance in 1972. Susan studied under vocal coaches Lowell Roddenbery, George Fiore, Eva Gustavson, and Lynn Dupin and sang in the Seattle Opera Chorus from 1972-1978. Susan was a music professor at Shoreline Community College from 1973-2012 where she was also the head of the vocal program, and produced and musically directed 38 annual musicals and Opera Workshops.
Susan met the love of her life David Dolacky in 1970 when looking for help lighting the Highline High School musical she was co-directing. She used her skills of persuasion to also convince him to build the production’s sets. It was from there that their love story began. They were married on February 26th, 1972 in Des Moines, WA and went on to have two children, Jon and Andrea.
Susan showed a level of love and compassion to people that went above and beyond. She was the type of person who wanted nothing, but gave everything to family, friends, students or strangers. Susan’s passion was instilling confidence in her singers as musicians, and for accepting each and every person who came into her life as a person who mattered and had something special to give the world. She loved spending any time she could on the Puget Sound whether it was on a boat, walking through the water and seaweed, or with her feet in the rocky sand. Her family is heartbroken to have lost such an incredible and irreplaceable person, but are at peace knowing she is someplace better watching over us with all her beautiful memories restored.
While her legacy stretches far and wide through the people she loved and nurtured, Susan is survived by her husband Dave, her son Jon (Elspeth) Dolacky, her daughter Andrea (Dan) Spencer, and her granddaughters Halle Spencer and Aila Dolacky.
