Stephanie P Schmidt

Stephanie (lovingly known as “Buzzie”) was born June 16, 1948, on a beautiful sunny day in Seattle, to Geoffrey and Priscilla Powis, life-long residents of Queen Anne. She graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1966 and the University of Washington in 1970, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. Stephanie married Howard Schmidt (originally from Mt. Angel, Oregon) on August 26, 1978.

For many years, Stephanie ran a successful business “Almost A Daughter”, providing personal and accounting assistance to seniors. She was a devoted wife, daughter, and friend to many. She had an amazing sense of humor and would light up a room with her adorable smile and calming presence. Stephanie was incredibly generous, witty, and wise beyond words. She had many, many friends and made everyone feel as if they were the most important person in her life. She adored her dogs, Skipper, Shasta, and Desi.

After a brief illness, Stephanie passed away peacefully with her beloved husband, Howard, by her side. Although she is no longer with us, her bright light will forever remain. Stephanie is preceded in death by her parents, her uncle Leonard Hitchman and his wife Janet, and her cousin Kurt Hitchman. She is survived by her loving husband and two cousins, Tony and David Hitchman.

Many thanks to the caregivers at Bayview Retirement Community and Swedish Hospital at Cherry Hill. A formal service will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Seattle Animal Shelter and Queen Anne Baptist Church.
