Sheila Doreen Wakeling Smith, age 93, passed away May 4, 2020 in Everett, WA. She was born April 22, 1927 in Hampshire, England, the second daughter to Irene May Madgwick and Charles Stanley Robert Wakeling. After WWII, she moved to Beaver Falls, NY to marry Frederick Elmer Smith in 1946. There they had two children, Steve and Jane. The family moved to Whittier, California in 1964. Sheila and Fred later moved to Edmonds, WA in 1989.
Sheila loved wildflowers, dogs, rabbits, and could spend hours watching and listening to birds. She was most at peace when out in nature and for much of her life enjoyed camping and visiting botanical gardens. She enjoyed quiet spaces and was an avid reader.
Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, Fred in 2010, her son, Steve in 2016, and her sister Rita Wakeling in 2018. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane Smith and John Bacon of Corvallis, OR, three granddaughters and their husbands, Amanda and Ben Rauk of Snohomish, WA, Melissa and Scott Gullberg of Alexandria, VA, and Joanna and Brandon Skeith of Bothell, WA, and a total of seven great-grandchildren.
Sheila embodied a peace and a love of nature, tranquility, god, and spiritual experience.
