Sharon Van Zandt was born September 11, 1945 in Wenatchee, WA to Donald and Virginia Williams. She passed away unexpectedly March 22, 2021 at the age of 75. She lived most of her childhood in Wenatchee, WA with the exception of a few years in Santa Monica, CA.
She met her husband, Richard Van Zandt, in Pullman while attending Washington State University. They married on June 23,1970 while Rick was stationed in Germany with the US Army. The nuptials were held in Basal, Switzerland.
Sharon dedicated her life to education, retiring from the Kent School District in 2011. She started her career in Seattle as a Middle School PE teacher and ended as a 2nd grade teacher at George Daniel Elementary.
Survivors include her two daughters, Marcii (Matt) Barkley and Joanna (Stuart) Hopkins, grandchildren Sam, Molly, David, Madi and Eli. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roderick Williams and her loving husband, Rick.
Sharon had a zest for life and made friends everywhere she went. After Rick passed away in the year 2000, Sharon continued their tradition of camping. Just a year ago she sold her RV and "retired" from that phase of her life, deciding instead to just "hotel it" or "VRBO it." She loved traveling around Washington State with most of her time near the beach or Mt. Rainier. If she was on a plane it was either to Hawaii or Palm Springs.
She was the keeper of all cards and letters, a strong Christian faith, family traditions, daily chats, texts and emails with friends and had a heart for all animals. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Please join us on Thursday, April 1 @ 5:00 for a Happy Hour Zoom celebrating the life of Sharon. Mom loved the Washington Coast, Hawaii, camping, nature and a good happy hour. Please wear your laid back beach or comfy clothes and have a drink in hand.
