Dear Sarah,
What a beautiful little girl you are! I look forward to meeting you in heaven and getting to know your personality. Your mama and I were friends in grade school and she and I used to talk about how fun it would be to have chimpanzees for pets to dress up and play with. :) Isn't that funny?! I would have loved to meet you and have told you all sorts of stories about how fun your mama is, but that will have to wait till heaven. Will you please give a huge hug and kiss to my baby for me? I hope you both become as good of friends as your mama and I were. Don't worry about your mama and dad, you gave them a gift of growing their hearts bigger than they ever imagined, and God will fill them with His love.

Dear Sarah Marie, 

To know that you were going to be born filled our hearts with happiness.  Katherine and Madeline wanted to know when you could come out and play as they looked forward to pushing you in the stroller.  I must say that Madeline would be better at pushing you around because Katherine would want you to experience the wind of being pushed at fast speeds.  They keep on asking me where you went and how come I'm so sad when I see your picture.  

Dear Sweet strong in spirit and fight Sarah Marie....  You are so loved, you taught me how to be strong and fight hard for life too.  

I hope you are having a good time with your grandma in Heaven.  When the sun shines down its warmth in the evening, just before the stars pop out, I will think of you.  At day I think of you, at sunset I think of you, when the stars come out I think of you, because that is you, the warmth, the colors of beautiful, the sparkle of night .  

It's pretty lonely down here without you.  I didn't get to meet you, but I know your parents pretty well.  You don't need me to tell you how amazing they are, but they are.  

I don't know what to say, or how to make it better because without you, we are all just broken.  

We are getting close to picking blackberries and Madeline so much wanted to teach you to paint with them by squishing them first, because that is where the magic is.  

The girls are really worried about where you went and Katherine wants me to know how I can take care of her Aunti Greta and Uncle John. 

Madeline wants to grow up and help babies be strong; she is talking about working at children's teaching art classes for kids that can't leave the Hospital.  

I just want to hold you, snuggle you and say thank you for being so wonderful.  You are my super hero.  

You will always be known to me as my little super hero Sarah Marie, because super heroes don't just leave when they are done saving the world, they transform into something that brings light and hope when their fighting is done.  

You are so loved.  I love you so much and you are so missed...I wish I could do more for your parents because they are extremely loved as well.  

Today, I light a candle in honor of you.  Not because I want to, as I wish it was not for this going away, but for your first birthday as I see you crawling with smiling drools with a chocolate covered face.  

You have reached to great heights, changed our world for the better, despite the great sorrow we feel.  

So today, we honor you, as you should be honored.  Happy Birthday sweet Sarah.  You are incredibly loved and so incredibly missed.  Heaven is incredibly lucky to have you.

Dearest Greta and John, 
You are in my thoughts and prayers today one week after Sarah Marie was laid to rest with her dear Grandmother.  You are amazing parents and your love and light was so alive in your sweet daughter Sarah Marie.  What a beautiful gift to all of us.  Peace and love to her memory.
