Born on June 12, 1947 in San Rafael, California, to parents Carl William Hageman and Alice Margaret Hageman (Cunningham), Bob grew up in Everett with his brother Bill and sisters Ann and Pam. He attended Cascade High School and was elected President of the Class of 1965. He enlisted in the Army two days after his 18th birthday. Afterwards, Bob returned to Seattle to attend the University of Washington, receiving his Bachelor’s degree and later a Master of Librarianship. That led him to a job as a librarian in Fiji and later at Seattle Public Library where, in 1988, he met the love of his life, Michie Onoyama, in the VHS aisle. They married soon after, continued to watch movies together, and had one son, George Hageman. Bob retired from Seattle Public Library after 22 years of dedication to the community, at the old Central, Broadview, new Central, Queen Anne, and Northgate locations. He spent his retirement doing what he loved—reading and writing.
He was predeceased by his brother Bill and is survived by his wife Michie, son George, daughter-in-law Susan, sisters Ann and Pam, brother-in-law Dick, sister-in-law Anne, nephews Charlie, Don, and Joe, nieces-in-law Kate, Gina, and Christina, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
