Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on April 20th after a long battle with brain cancer and complications due to pneumonia. Bob was born in Hartford, Washington and grew up in Lake Stevens with his 6 brothers and 1 sister. He enjoyed a long career in the auto business starting out as a detailer at Verhey Motors in Everett. He received his Associate in Arts degree at Everett Junior College and attended the University of Washington and was drafted into the army after one year. He was honorably discharged in 1961. He then returned to his automotive career working for Glen Grant; first at Grants Auto Brokers then Burien Chrysler Plymouth. After years of commuting, he moved closer to home working for Goodfellow Chrysler Plymouth. In 1972 he had the opportunity to become a partner at Ravenna Motors. In 1998 he opened Seattle Volvo and both dealerships are now known as Bob Byers Volvo, where he retired after 30 years in 2002. Bob served as President of Washington State Auto Dealers Association, Puget Sound Auto Dealers Association and was the Time Quality Dealer of the Year award winner in 1994. He was President of Sales and Marketing Executives and University Kiwanis where he had 28 of 35 years of perfect attendance. Bob loved boating, golfing, playing basketball (until he was 70 years old) and the UW Huskies! He was a Tyee member and Husky football season ticket holder for 40 years. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy; children Mike, Susan, Doug (Patti), and Kathy (Eric); 6 grandchildren: Christopher (20), Casey (11), Natalie (14), Alex (12), Burke (8) and Blake (5); and brothers Roy (Ann) from Houston, Texas and Cliff (Bobbi) from Bothell. Memberships included Inglewood Golf Club, Ironwood Country Club in Palm Desert, Inglewood Presbyterian Church and the Seattle Yacht Club. He was a Circle of Care member of Seattle Children’s and enjoyed supporting activities for the hospital. Thank you so much to all of our friends and family for their support and prayers. We would especially like to thank Bob’s wonderful UW Neurologists, Doctors Maciej Mrugala and Laurie Lee for their unwavering support and compassionate care.
