"A great man is one who leaves others at a loss after he is gone." On Thursday, December 07, 2022, Richard Carl Volkman, father of three children, passed away at the age of 82. Richard was born on November 20, 1940, in Yakima, WA to Phyllis and Carl Volkman. He entered the Navy in 1960 and served honorably for 6 years during the Vietnam War on the USS Kearsarge. After leaving the Navy, Richard completed an apprenticeship with the University of Washington as a facilities painter. He worked at the Seattle campus over 30 years, until his retirement in 1996. Richard had a passion for model trains and worked with other hobbyists to build large, complex layouts. His hobbies and interests included family, gardening, and working on his modeling projects. He devoted much of his time and energy as a caregiver to his mother until she passed away at the age of 92. Richard is survived by his daughter, Jill Marsden; sons, Michael Volkman (Jamie), Gary Volkman (Desiree); and grandsons, David, Cameron, and Jacob. A celebration of Richard's life will be held on January 8th.
