I'd like to share my Eulogy with those of you who were not able to come to the service.

I'd like to start by saying to Raymond's family that we share in your loss as Raymond was family to us all.

I would like the family to know that Raymond was never alone. He was always with friends and Raymond had many friends...I believe this because he knew how to be one. It would be hard for me to describe what kind of friend Raymond was because he was a friend to each of us in his own special way. But I can say that he was generous 
with his time, his smile and most of all his love.

Everyone has their own stories with Raymond. I have my own memories and it was nice to read other people's stories in the guestbook. While reading some of those stories, I often paused and said to myself "That's typical Raymond" or "I didn't know he did that." It's nice to read & hear about the uniqueness of his friendships with other people.

Another thing about Raymond that you all most likely know is that he loved to dance. You could tell how life was treating him simply by the way he was dancing. Raymond also had an eye for fashion, although it may have seemed a little gaudy at times. He introduced me to turquoise shirts and rolled up pants. He liked to wear hats but I remember him more when he didn't wear hats...unless you'd call hairspray a hat.

Knowing what kind of friend Raymond was, I know when it's our time, he'll have a seat saved for us or he'll be waiting for us on Heaven's dance floor.

Emily, you meant everything to Raymond. He took care of you just as much as you took care of him. I remember a promise was made between Raymond and your mom. I believe he kept that promise. Although he may be gone, I know he'll always be watching over you.

Raymond...I am honored to have been able to say these words about you. I'll be thinking of you throughout my life. I plan to shed many tears.

Raymond, we love you, we miss you, and we'll never forget you.

i remember raymond and the rest of the birds gettin' chased out of my grandma's kitchen whenever they were over to raid the fridge...but whenever we threw our family parties he was always there playing with my cousins like he was part of the family...he was my link to all the northend filipinos in high school "you know that guy with the purple thunderbird on the 17 inch d's?..yeah that's my friend raymond!"...it'll be tough not seeing him at all the get-togethers and or bumping into him at jillian's...i know he is with God now looking after all of us...

Raymond this is your cousin Christian a.k.a "white boy." I'm sure your looking down on us from heaven, we miss you so much.  I have so many memories of you and the cousins, movies, pizza, CAR.  My fondest memory involved you and a b-day party.When Adrian had a birthday party at auntie graces old house there was a pinata.  When the pinata broke everyone dove for the candy, including me and older cousin JP.  As I grabbed a piece of candy away in front of JP, he bit my arm gently, but being the young kid I was, I cried, and ran away in the house.  You were talking to Emily in the corner in front of the food and you and Emily saw my crying face.  You pulled me aside and asked me what was wrong, and I told you about what happened to JP and my arm. You told me not to worry and you gave me a hug, and told me not to cry.  You pulled a dollar from your pocket and handed it to me.  I stopped crying, and it meant a lot to me when you did that.  thanks for all the memories...we miss you Raymond, god bless you..rest in peace.

Kuya Raymond...Today was one of the saddest days i've had. We layed you to rest today never to see you again physically and the feeling was painful. I wondered why? Why, did it have to hurt so bad? I know you're better now. No more pain. But, why did it have to be this way? I know, GOD's will but, why you? I pray that you will find the peace you so deserve. In the meantime, we will have to stay tight and love eachother like there are no miles between us. It won't be the same without you but, don't worry we'll stay tight. I'll see ya when I get there. Years ago I could picture a group of us friends from the neighborhood that hung out all the time. On the other hand, Raymond lived far north of us, so as we got to know Raymond we found he was just as goofy as we were, even though we all just about went to different high schools you could not pull us apart. And somehow we became known as "The Birdz." After all, our number one rule was, "Don't touch the "do". Raymond would come to the salon and say "I'm on the homie don't you know me" plan...when it was time to pay! =
I will always remember the good memories and innocent fun we had as kids. Going through life experiencing school, friends, fashion, girls, clubs, cars and always keeping up on the new dance moves. I could still see him doing the "windshield wiper" dance being goofy and funny as ever...and ALWAYS making you laugh!
We always watched over one another and so I will love and miss him like family, like a friend and ALWAYS A BROTHER!  "BIRDZ FOREVER"

I still remember the first time I met Raymond some twenty years ago.  He was such a cute little boy then.  We would occasionally see each other at his parents'  house and exchange "how are you doing" and "how are you" greetings.  Those were happy and wonderful memories.  I want to always remember him as such, jolly and cute. I haven't been at Evelyn and Jimmy's house for several years now.  And I've lost track of what's going on in the Mendiola household.  It is so sad to hear that Raymond is now gone at a such a very young age.  I would like to console with Jimmy and Evelyn and partner Emily and with the rest of the family on this recent tragedy.  Perhaps Raymond and Jenny will be together to look after each other in the hereafter.

Da Birdz...Our Spaghetti Factory joke "Care for some bread?"... Taking a Metro bus to school dances, he always knew which bus # to take. Don't forget to look at the schedule to see when the last bus runs...  Raymond in high school w/his bright shirts, rolled up pants, no socks, & many bracelets. I remember a time when he was chewing on one w/blue liquid glitter in it & it broke and turned his mouth blue. But that didn't stop Raymond from going to the dance... Remember how he laughed? He'd lean back and throw his hand up to cover his mouth all at the same time... He'd tease Inee Maria about her Filipino fro... He used to store his Daytons inside his bedroom closet... Final touches on his hair using a fork...  "Kick back...chicken back"...  Going to school dances after work smelling like food "Oh well, Steak & Ale"... Cruising Broadway & Alki w/a booming system... Always made time for me when I was home on leave from the military... Constantly reminded us he was going to be a Godparent to our kid... Sharing Frangos w/special friends - Em, don't tell anyone my hiding spot!

Em - Remember Raymond's smile, his goofiness, his laughter and his love for you and it'll help us through this tough time.

I new Raymond when he first came to Seattle with his family at the age of 11.  Being our next door neighbor on Bartlett Ave, I literally grew-up with him, my brother Anthony, and another neighbor Brett.  He was at our house a lot and I remember the many hours he fixed his hair in front of the bar mirror.  I also remember going to K-Fox dances, house parties, the latest Eddie Murphy or breakdance movies, hanging out downtown or the mall  with him.  He new what buses to take, or we'd find a ride, and eventually started sneaking cars out before any of us had our driver's license. We took our driving class together, and he even let me use his car when I took the driving test.  Anyways, although we have not been close in the more recent years, I will miss him and so does my husband Elmo.
To Auntie Evelyn, Uncle Jimmy, and Emily - we want to express our deepest sympathy.  While we mourn during this difficult time, may we be comforted knowing that he is now with our Lord.

Memories: I remember that I  always knew when you and Em were around when I heard  "OPP" blowing outside. Hanging out everyday eating plain potato chips and ketchup!  We'll miss you Raymond.

So many memories I wish for more, i'll miss you bro', love you, may god keep you safe, healthy and happy up in the heavens.  Tell my Mom and Uncle Bob I love them and miss them too.

and pull his finger.  I would also like to say that we
will all miss you Uncle Raymond, also I would like to
ask Raymond to say hi to all the people who have past like
my Na Na, Jenny, and my Uncle Bob, ect.....

This is for my cousin Ray, and for everybody else, this is the eulogy that I would like to share with the people who didn't hear it.

My cousin Raymond, what can I say about him. Where do I begin? What I would like to say about Raymond is something that cannot be compressed into the time frame that I am given, nor can my feelings be expressed into words, but Iâ€™ll try anyway. Iâ€™d like to start things off by saying that we love you Raymond, we miss you, and you will never ever be forgotten.  He taught me so much in life, I donâ€™t know where I would be with out him.  

From when I was about 10 years old, he introduced me to this thing called Hip-Hop and the art of breakdancingâ€¦.I remember him trying to teach me how to do headspins on a cardboard box in the back of Auntie Evelynâ€™s house back in the days.  I remember when he first fixed up his T-bird after he painted it candy purple, he fixed it up with the gold rims, the switches and the beats.  Heâ€™d pick me up at school hit those switches and everybody would be in awe and envy.  People would ask, â€œwhoâ€™s that in the purple lowrider?â€ and I would respond with a big grin, â€œThatâ€™s my cousin Raymond!â€ He taught me a lot about cars and its components.  Raymond was always representing the best from Showtime to DVS, and from Outkast to Crown, Raymond has taught me so much.

But the most important thing that Raymond has ever taught me is how to take care and love one another.  He showed how important it was to look out for eachother.  And that was something he always did.  Out of everybody that I have known in life, there isnâ€™t one person that looked out for me the way Raymond did.  Iâ€™m sure Iâ€™m not speaking just about myself but for a lot of people.  He was the big brother I never had.  He had my back 110%.  He showed me the ropes in life and how to survive in the real world.   Iâ€™ve learned things from him that couldnâ€™t be taught in a classroom, from a book, a computer or anywhere else.  What I learned from Raymond surprisingly wasnâ€™t from a relationship with a girl neitherâ€¦he showed me what true, genuine love was all about.  It wasnâ€™t about money or materialistic things when it came to us.  It was all about taking care of those loved ones around you.  He made sure that all of his nephews, nieces and younger cousins were all taken care of. Every time Iâ€™d see him, he would make sure that I was staying away from trouble, and when I did well, he rewarded me, handsomely.  Heâ€™d take us out to dinner, movies, Jillâ€™s, whatever. He made me happy just like everybody else, and Raymond was never happier when he made us happy.

Itâ€™s sad knowing that when I try to call your cell phone, or try to page you, youâ€™re not going to answer.  Even if youâ€™re going to be late in meeting up, as you usually are, Iâ€™m going to miss the tardiness.  You showed me what running on Filipino time really meant.  I remember when you would drive, you wouldnâ€™t pay attention to the stoplight and I told Emily thatâ€™s why you were always late, because you were lounging in the car sitting and looking pretty at the light.  Iâ€™m gonna miss telling you to put on your seatbelt, you never liked to wear them because it wrinkled your clothes. Iâ€™m gonna miss seeing you munching on some snacks, with that lil quirky smirk of yours, your laugh, your wise cracks on JP, your never ending bickering with Emily, your never ending love for Emily, your pimp gear, your hats, your white ass shirts and shoes, and you telling me the latest news about Carter and the newest Outkast cd.  Iâ€™ve been asking myself, now that youâ€™re gone, whoâ€™s going to keep me in check, and whoâ€™s going to look out for me? But Raymond, youâ€™ve done a tremendous job on teaching that to us, what weâ€™ve learned from you can be passed on to one another, and to our future children.  There really isnâ€™t anyone out there that treated me the way you did, and I would like to thank you for that, I love you Ray and thank you for always being there. Youâ€™ll always be in my heart and Iâ€™ll miss you dearlyâ€¦one love


Well .... the stories can go on and on and on about you, kuya ray. You were all the cousins' icon. I remember everytime your clothes would get old you would line them up outside your dad's house, then all the little cousins would line up and pick one thing. I could've sworn that even though they were pretty old, the clothes and shoes were still "FRESH" as you may call it. Angelo, Victor, John, Christian, JP, and I would constantly argue on your clothes. We would always want to borrow your yellow vests, or black structure jackets. And I swear that it that five or six more people would wear it before it was returned to you. I would always feel kinda pimp when I would be sportin your stuff. I remember the sunday night movies, when you and emo would trade cars with ate lucille so you can get the van, so all of us can fit. After movies, we would go to funplex. I miss those days so much !!! I miss the times when you would take us to godfather's pizza, and red robin's where you would order just the unlimited supply of steak fries for us kids. Rollin in the T-Bird, blastin the subs, and hittin the switches, whenever i was rollin with you always made my day. Also the moments when you would come by the apartment, and ask me to clean your shoes for some extra cash. Even though you are gone and are up there Ray .... You and the memories that we shared will always be in my heart. I will be miss you so much. Watch over us now ! And say hello to Ate Jenny, Grandpa Ruben, and my Grandma Sayong. Thanks for everything that you have been to us, family, and friends. I Love you !!!!
