Philip passed away peacefully at home at the age of 92. Born in Chico, CA, he enjoyed a rural boyhood with his three siblings, and attended Chico State College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II (Pacific Theater), and the U.S. Air Force until his retirement as Chief Master Sergeant in 1965. He was employed by Bethlehem Steel in West Seattle, retiring in 1985.
Phil was a 32nd Degree Mason of the York Rite and a member of the Ballard Masonic Lodge and Nile Shrine. He as an avid reader with a great interest in history (especially WWII and the Civil War); enjoyed watching sports (Go Patriots!); was known for his love of animals (especially his poodle Daisy and puli Marley); he loved mathematics and complex puzzle solving.
Philip was preceded in death by his wife Ellen F. Jordan (Centralia, WA.) They met at a Louis Armstrong dance in Seattle in 1945, and were married for 64 years.
He is survived by his daughters Kathleen and Jacqueliene Anderson (Seattle); niece Sally Porter-Smith and nephew Michael Porter (WA); sister Bernice Brooks, nieces Joyce Eritano and Jane Nachand, and nephew Ken Anderson (CA).
Phil attended Bethany Presbyterian Church. Christian burial was observed with interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A memorial reception is scheduled for February 25 at 12:30 at Butterworth Funeral Home: 520 W Raye St., Seattle, WA 98119.
