On December 16, 2024 Peter A. Stavros passed away peacefully at the age of 97. He was born January 3,1927 in Seattle, WA.
At the age of 17, Peter enlisted in the Navy after his brother and cousins were drafted for WWII. He served on the USS Rocky Mount and received 3 medals from his time served. Peter was Honorably Discharged from the Navy in 1946 and returned home to Seattle, Washington.
Peter had a love for fast cars and began drag racing on Sundays at Seattle International Raceway. His pride and joy was his 1956 Chevy BelAir. Peter raced for many years and had the trophies from his winnings to show for it. He enjoyed this hobby for many years, continuing it while juggling being a husband and a father.
On May 10,1957, Peter was introduced to Maria Youroukou by his uncle in Xylokastro, Greece. They married on May 16, 1957. On June 27, 1957, they left Greece by boat and arrived in Seattle on July 13th, where they spent the rest of their lives together. Peter and Maria were married for 67 years and were blessed with 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Peter was an avid Bowler, he was a member of 2 leagues at Leilani Lanes, one of those leagues being with his coworkers from the U.S Postal Service. After nearly 28 years of service Peter retired on December 29, 1980. Peter continued his love for bowling by teaching his children and grandchildren throughout the years.
After retirement, his next adventure began when he built the family summer home in Soap Lake, Washington. It quickly became a beloved spot, not just for Peter and Maria, but also for their children and grandchildren, who spent many summer breaks there with them. He cherished the opportunity to share the place he had visited as a child with his family.
Peter was very proud of his many accomplishments in life, and he shared those memories during the many visits with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Maria, children Katie, Rene (Dave), Alex (Raushan), Angie (Brad), grandchildren John, Maria, Alisa, Nicolette, Anna, Evan, Luke, Alexa, Isabella and great grandchildren.
