Retired Colonel Patrick “Moon” Mullen passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday March 29th in Bangkok, Thailand. He was born November 18th, 1955 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Patrick is survived by his two daughters; Samantha Mullen and Wendy Dwan, as well as his former wife and mother to his daughters; Eda Mullen. Patrick grew up in Seattle, Washington but became a man of the world throughout his life travels. Patrick had a passion for golf, table tennis and swimming and had a charismatic energy about him. He was always able to make everyone around him laugh and was an excellent communicator. He is loved and missed by many all around the world. Moon was the kind of person who left a lasting impression even for those who only met him once. Patrick was a very kind and generous individual who worked very hard his whole life to ensure those he loved were always taken care of.
Patrick had an adventurous and impressive career throughout his life. He entered the Air Force in 1978 through the University of Puget Sound Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He attended pilot training at Williams Air Force Base, AZ. Following tours as an F-111D Instructor Pilot, he served as an F-111F Flight Commander, Assistant Operations Officer and Operations Officer. Previous staff assignments include tours at the Tactical Air Warfare. Center, Eglin Air Force Base, FL; Headquarters Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center, Kirtland Air Force Base, NM; United States Defense Attaché Office (USDAO), London, United Kingdom and USDAO Tokyo, Japan.
Patrick D. Mullen, Colonel, USAF (Retired) was an AMCHAM Affiliated Member and member of the Aerospace Committee. Patrick had over 37 years of aviation experience across the Military Aviation Operations, Program Management and Business Development arenas. Patrick was the Director for Avionics Business Development, Raytheon, in Tokyo, Japan from 2006-2014. Patrick worked with the Japanese Defense Industry and Japanese Air Self Defense Force (JASDF) on Co-Licensed production of their F-15J’s radar and the Marketing of Raytheon’s Advanced AESA radar for Japan’s Future Fighter program. Patrick also was the Director of Business Development & Relations for Moon Aviation Solutions.
Patrick “Moon” Mullen lived an exciting life of success and world travels; making sure to live his life to the fullest. He’s left a lasting impression on those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him and will stay in the hearts of his friends and family forever. He’s one of the few individuals who have had memorial services set up in 3 different countries since his passing; A Thai Buddhist Ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand April 1st-7th, A Memorial Service in Tokyo, Japan on April 15th and a Memorial Service in Seattle, Washington on May 5th. Rest in Peace, Moon; you left this world too soon, but will not soon be forgotten. Thank you for a lifetime of love and memories, you will be missed more than words can express.
