Patricia Ruth Roth, resident of Monroe, WA; born June 24th, 1935 in Ashland, WI - the first of two children born to Hazel and Raymond Cassidy - passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 19th 2022. She is survived by her five adult children - John, Ryan, Rae An, Robin and Kaliene - and their families; including grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband John Jr., mother, father, brother James, one adult child - Robert, her nephew Brendan, and many friends and loved ones.
Patricia’s life was defined, in great measure, by her deep and selfless love for her family. Her childhood life centered around Mellen, WI but ended up in Winlock, WA where she experienced school years that she fondly recalled. Pat was a song-queen, played the clarinet and had two best friends who she skipped classes and walked home from school with. She met and dated hunky farm-boy, football player and man of her dreams, John. The two were married in 1953. They gravitated to the vicinity of the University of Washington for John’s studies, were stationed in Okinawa Japan upon his Army enlistment, then returned to Seattle where Pat started her career in the insurance industry with Safeco. She worked for many years at Worthington Insurance in Bothell. Living in Kenmore, the pair started their family and became charter members of Epiphany Lutheran Church. Pat loved to sing church hymns and taught Sunday school. They purchased a 10-acre starter farm in Woodinville, where she worked as a homemaker and child-rearer while John pursued his consulting engineering career, eventually leading his own professional firm for over 40 years. Pat was every bit involved in that success as a superb co-host and client entertainer. She remained close to her parents and brother, many nights sharing the childcare responsibilities, family kitchen and table, laughter and languish in an action-filled household. They coached Little League, camped, led scouting troops and church functions, and they traveled. In 1974, the purchase of the original piece of Sky Valley Ranch, east of Monroe, set the stage for full-on farm life. There Pat bucked hay, herded cattle, fed horses, tended goats, drove equipment, grew huge vegetable gardens and raised kids, calling it home to the end of her days.
In later years, she became involved in education; first as a bus driver, then as a classroom assistant, which she often described as a highlight of her days. She would do almost anything for her kids, and was a softy when it came to animals. She always welcomed dinner or overnight guests and managed to provide just what was needed. Her holiday celebrations were lifestyle magazine feature-worthy and her barbeques NEVER lacked meat *and* dessert - for even the hungriest appetite. Venturing further, she and John enjoyed frequenting jazz bars in the French Quarter of New Orleans and cruising the world but also the simple pleasures of playing cribbage and going out to breakfast together. They became founding members of Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Lake Stevens, where they served as dedicated leaders. Over the last 10 years, Pat devoted herself to caring for her ailing mother and increasingly infirmed husband, visiting the beach at Ocean Shores and working outside as time allowed. After John’s passing in 2017 and given her own health conditions and the impacts of COVID lockdowns, she spent much of these last years enjoying, finally, some simple peace and quiet at home.
Pat was an independent soul her entire life. She loved the Lord in her own unique way, kept her own schedule and did exactly what she wanted, which was mostly drinking coffee in the morning, working outside as weather permitted and spending time with loved ones. Two reflections she shared during her final days were; “having you kids was the joy of my life” and “don’t wait so long to retire”.
A viewing will be available at Evergreen Washelli in Seattle at 9am Friday November 18th followed by a celebration of life service and reception at 11am.
