Nyson Chin (Chin Lai Sung) was born in 1946 in a small farming village in Taishan, Guangdong, China. He was adopted by his mother, a widow, Eng Yeu Tai, and had two older sisters, May and Rosa. The family moved to Hong Kong in 1949 when Nyson was three years old. At the age of 13, Nyson would emigrate to America (Seattle, Washington) as his Uncle Bong’s alleged eldest son. He worked in Uncle Bong’s restaurant, the Tea House, all throughout his teenage years. Nyson graduated from Franklin High School in 1965. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington in 1969 and immediately began working for Seattle City Light as an Engineer.
Shortly after, Nyson was introduced to Wendy and they developed a pen pal relationship for a year and half. They were married on March 28, 1970 in Hong Kong. Six months later, Nyson and Wendy would buy their first house on Beacon Hill in Seattle. Their first child, Wesley, was born in 1972 and their second child, Jacy, was born in 1976. Nyson retired in 2003 after 34 years of employment with the City of Seattle. He enjoyed his retirement life traveling all over the world with Wendy and joyfully welcomed a son-in-law, Jerry, and a daughter-in-law, Tammy. He was always thrilled with the birth of each of his 6 grandchildren. Nyson was baptized at 63 years old, along with Wendy, at the Seattle Chinese Alliance Church.
After battling Alzheimer’s and impairing muscle loss for many years, Nyson was hospitalized in October 2021 with pneumonia which further diminished his ability to do basic daily functions. In December 2021, he moved into Kin On Adult Family Home. Nyson fought extremely hard for the last six months of his life through many challenges. Nyson passed away peacefully on June 4, 2022 surrounded by his family.
Nyson is survived by his sister Rosa (Young Quan), his wife of 52 years, Wendy; Son Wesley (Tammy); Daughter, Jacy (Jerry); Grandchildren Nathan, Jenna, Caleb, Emi, Callise, Chyler and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
