Noon Nui Fung

Noon Nui Fung was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, born in 1930 in Sunwui District, Guangdong Province, China. She was the youngest of a large family and immigrated to the US with her husband and son in 1966. The family ended up settling in Beacon Hill and lived in the same house since 1968.

In the US, she worked briefly as a seamstress, but eventually settled in as a homemaker, where she excelled greatly. Her drive and passion for family was demonstrated every day for decades. Through her care, she not only raised her own children but also played a significant role in raising her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.

When she had some free time, she enjoyed playing mah-jong (where she was a skilled player by most accounts) and early on spent time at the Longacres racetrack. Later in life, she tested her luck and gambling prowess on trips to Las Vegas and the Snoqualmie Casino. She often boasted of her fortuitous nature and claimed to be quite lucky at the horseracing track and slot machines.

Noon also had a strong passion for cooking. She enjoyed providing for others using her culinary skills. She made an excellent fried egg and some of her more in demand dishes included fried rice and wonton noodles. But it was her roast pork that was particularly delightful, and well received by those who had the opportunity to taste it.

When Noon wasn’t cooking or caring for others, she could be found tending to her garden with the honey sweet Asian pear trees and plums; providing unsolicited but humorous opinions about anything and everything (she was a tad superstitious and possessed a sixth sense); and putting her sewing and knitting skills to good use. Some of her most beloved creations were children’s clothes, blankets and pillows, scarves, hats and baby booties.

During retirement Noon loved to watch sports (basketball (Steph Curry), horse racing, soccer, cornhole – almost any sports except American football); game shows (Price is Right); and cooking shows (particularly those featuring Chinese cooking, Jacques Pepin, Andrew Zimmern, and Anthony Bourdain).

Noon was selfless, constantly helping and thinking of others before herself; was very resourceful (like MacGyver) and accomplished a lot for not having much to start with. We are so fortunate to have had her in our lives, and she is dearly missed.

Noon is survived by her daughter, Jeannie; daughter-in-law, Soo; three grandchildren – Gary (Robin), Sunny (Kathy), and Shirley; two great granddaughters, Kaila and Jadyn; and great grand dog Bentley. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and two sons.

楊女濃於1930年出生在廣東省新會區，是子女們所深愛的母親，孫兒孫女們所敬愛的祖母、曾祖母。她在家中排行最小，在1966年與先生及兒子一起移民到美國。1968年在Beacon Hill社區定居，一直住在同一棟房子到現在。

在美國，一開始她是從事有關裁縫的工作，之後把重心轉移到家庭。她數十年如一日，盡心盡力地照料家庭每一個成員。她不但親自扶養子女成年，在孫子女甚至是曾孫女們的成長過程中，也扮著舉足輕重的角色。

閒暇時，她喜歡打麻將，大多數的人都不是她的對手。早期她也喜歡去Longacres賽馬場，近幾年她比較喜歡去Las Vegas和Snoqualmie賭場測試自己的手氣。她常誇口說她天生的好運氣，所以經常在賽馬場和吃角子老虎機上贏些小錢。

熱愛廚藝的女濃，經常不吝嗇地與人分享她的好手藝。她做的炒蛋非常好吃，炒飯和雲吞麵也很受歡迎。不過，最令人津津樂道的是她最拿手的港式燒肉，這是一道任何吃過的人都讚不絕口的美味料理。

其餘的時間，女濃喜歡在後院照料她的果樹、與人話家常，有時也會發揮她的裁縫編織才能做些手工。她喜歡縫製小孩的衣服、被子和枕頭，縫補孫子的衣服，編制圍巾，帽子，和嬰兒鞋子。

退休後，女濃愛上了看電視上的運動比賽節目（除了橄欖球外，籃球、賽馬，足球她都喜歡看）、遊戲節目，與烹飪節目（特別是中菜，或Jacques Pepin, Andrew Zimmern, and Anthony Bourdain）。

女濃是一個無私，總是先替別人著想的人。她的機智和豐富的想像力就像是馬蓋先，她胼手胝足，完成了許多不可能完成的事。我們是多麼幸運有一個像她這樣的長輩，我們深深地感恩懷念她。

女濃身後留下女兒Jeannie；兒媳婦Soo；孫子Gary (孫媳Robin) 和 Sunny (孫媳Kathy); 孫女Shirley；曾孫女Kaila和 Jadyn 及小狗Bentley。
