Nancy Carol Shew passed away from her struggle with Alzheimer's at the age of 88 in Edmonds, WA on June 19th.
She was born in Seattle at Waldo Hospital on May 21st to Howard E and Violet R Anderson. A devoted Catholic, she was raised in Ballard and possessed a natural talent for the arts. At a young age, she danced upon a float celebrating the opening of the Ballard bridge, she danced for the USO, and she painted the world as she saw it upon canvas with paints and charcoal.
Shortly after graduating from Ballard High School, she married Clarence Okeson Jr. and gave birth to Carrie Anne Marie Okeson. This marriage was brief.
In 1966, Nancy married Harold Monroe Shew who had a son Keith and Daughter Linda. Nancy and Harold gave birth to Christy Jo Lynn Shew in 1968 and spent half of a century in their home in Freemont. Nancy loved her family more than anything and nothing made her happier than a big family get together. Even in hard times she made sure that Christmas was a real treat. Even if she had to make toys out of cardboard boxes, no one was ever disappointed. Those 50 years were filled with adventures, dancing, and social engagements. Be it a warm pie, a costume, or a decoration... Nancy made it...and she crafted from scratch. Anyone who ever met them... would never forget them. They brought enthusiasm and laughter to any and every gathering! Sadly, Harold passed away in 2016. At that time her early symptoms of Alzheimer's transitioned her to the support of senior living where she continued to enjoy music and song throughout the remainder of her life.
Nancy was preceded in death by Harold, her parents, her brother Rodger, her first husband Clarence and her step son and step daughter. She is survived by her daughter Carrie Thunell (and husband Steve), her daughter Christy Shew (and husband Robert Lischke), her Brother Ron Anderson (and wife Terry), many grandchildren and friends.
"Mom, we know you are in God's special place - there with Dad and your friends and family. A place where the music never ends and you can dance for eternity in your love's arms." ~ Christy
